Go as a River (2023) by Shelley Read* Recently Added

Wednesday, August 23 • 11:00am-12:30pm • OnlineCourse 12111 • $30

Seventeen-year old Torie Nash lives on her family’s peach farm in a small ranch town in Colorado, the sole surviving female in a family of troubled and embittered men. Stifled by her caretaking role, she seldom leaves the farm except to go into town. In 1948, she has a chance encounter with Wilson Moon, a handsome stranger looking for work and a room at the local flophouse. Their growing attraction is set against the town’s vicious bigotry toward Native Americans. When tragedy strikes, Torie flees to the nearby mountains where she starts anew and struggles to survive in the wilderness, finding the strength to carry on even as the Gunnison River submerges her family’s beloved property. Inspired by true events surrounding the flooding of a Colorado town in the 1960s, this is a story of survival, compassion, and appreciation of nature in the midst of hardship, loss, and the passage of time.
