One of my favorite things to do is to sit on the front porch of our Little Gasparilla Island home. From here I enjoy the porpoise playing in the bay and the osprey competing with the pelicans for breakfast. Thankfully my mom discovered LGI, and she and dad bought here over 30 years ago!
All of the seasons are great on LGI, but summer boasts extra perks that the others don't. For one, the
s
ea turtles begin their nesting in May and babies start hatching about 60 days later. New nests, along with mama's tracks going in and out of the water, are seen all along the beach.
A highlight of the fourth of July week is the Annual LGI July Fourth Golf Cart Parade! Dozens of golf carts, decorated in the finest of patriotic trinkets, are enthusiastically applauded by hot-but-happy onlookers. One year our kids talked me into dressing up as the Statue of Liberty. Hilarious, right? For two hours I stood on the back of our golf cart holding my "torch" high and sweating profusely!
