3rd Quarter 2021
LIVABLE LUXURY
I think 2021 is going to be all about
livable luxury, and versatility in design.
So many people have had to transition
over the past year, that they are rethinking
less used spaces and embracing furniture concepts that play double duty. Next year
will be all about durable fabrics, comfortable upholstery, and furniture pieces that are
versatile and chic.

KATE LESTER Kate Lester Interiors

Hello!

The end of summer is fast approaching, marked by the return of students to college and ‘finally’ local schools. Whether we have children in school or not, it seems we all still naturally follow the academic seasons. While my daughters have been out in the working world for several years, I find myself making a road trip.
An August move of my oldest daughter to a new city and into a new apartment. Even with a four day drive ahead of us, I am looking forward to helping her add a designers’ touch to her new apartment. Of course I’ve planned to break up the trip with a few ‘design inspiring’ stops — first one is Magnolia in Waco, TX. Follow my story on Instagram for updates and pictures along the way!

This month’s feature article highlights a full design project we recently completed for one of our clients looking to renovate their carriage house to a multi-functional space. This was a fun project for our whole team and we and our clients are just thrilled with how the whole project turned out!

It’s hard to believe the holidays will soon be upon us. Once again, Hunter Douglas is offering a Season of Style rebate on popular shades like the Silhouette, Pirouette, Luminette, Sonnette and Vignette. This savings event starts September 11th and runs through December 6th. Be sure to visit our website for details.

This year marks our 20th Anniversary in business! I am so proud of my team, Amy, Sarah and Ronnie, who consistently fulfill Sew Beautiful’s mission of completing beautiful rooms with the highest quality products, and providing unparalleled customer service. It’s been quite the year with long lead times and product delays, a nuance we’ve not experienced in 20 years. I am also grateful for the continued patience of our clients as we navigate these unusual times together. Once we’re on the other side of COVID, we will all have a lot to celebrate!

Kindest regards,
Margaret, Owner
FEATURED PROJECT
During the construction phase, the owners of this Nantucket style carriage house tasked Sew Beautiful with the challenge of designing versatile, well-appointed and comfortable rooms.

Above the garage, is an inviting living area finished with wide moldings and clean straight lines. Serving as home office, gathering space and guest bedroom suite, it is complete with a small efficiency kitchen, full bath and sweeping views of the Severn River from the adjacent outdoor deck.
A nautical theme and natural elements bring together multipurpose design pieces. A blue and cream herringbone staircase runner leads visitors up to the living area that is anchored with a tone on tone patterned wool rug, bordered by a blue leather band.

Drapery panels with natural tape trim frame the expansive glass sliding doors, through which guests can move to the comfortable outdoor
deck furniture, which is shaded
from the hot afternoon sun by a retractable awning.
Most of the furnishings and artwork are locally sourced. A print, by Annapolis artist Nancy Hammond, sits above the desk in the great room which doubles as a table for entertaining. The sofa sourced through Be Home in Annapolis converts to a queen-size bed.

The re-upholstered chairs swivel to allow for views of the water and/or the television. All furniture pieces are covered in performance fabrics from Perennials and Thibaut.
The bedroom is large enough to fit a small dresser, side tables and king-size upholstered bed, draped in cozy, eye-catching bedding.

The dresser and side tables were locally sourced through Be Home and Park Home. The sailboat painting,
a commissioned piece by local
artist Kim Hovell beautifully
completes the room.

Plantation shutters offer privacy and light control for sleeping guests.
