“What Shall We Do with Our Anger?”
Rev. Joanna Fontaine Crawford
Online Only 10:00 am

How is your anger showing up? Are you more irritable, or carrying a slow-simmering rage? There are many justifiable reasons to be mad right now. How do we best channel that anger in a way that is productive and doesn’t harm us or the people we love?

Join us for Worship at 10:00am: the link will be on the Live Oak homepage: www.liveoakuu.org

Join us for Fellowship Time immediately following the service (approx. 10:45/11:00): https://link.liveoakuu.org/FellowshipHour
Share the Plate
Share Your Support with Share the Plate
It’s the High Holidays!
Our September 2021 Share the Plate community partner is the Anti-Defamation League of Texas. ADL is a leading anti-hate organization, founded in 1913 in response to an escalating climate of antisemitism and bigotry. Today, ADL is the first call when acts of antisemitism occur, and continues to fight all forms of hate. A global leader in exposing extremism, delivering anti-bias education, and fighting hate online, ADL’s ultimate goal is a world in which no group or individual suffers from bias, discrimination or hate.

ADL was chosen as our partner specifically for September, as Jews across the world observe the High Holidays. In addition, this donation is in recognition of our friendship and shared sacred space with Shir Ami. We stand united with them in fighting antisemitism.

Go to the Donate link on the Live Oak website’s home page. Use the drop down menu to designate your donation for “Share the Plate”. In addition to those designated donations, half of all undesignated gifts in September will go to the fund.

July recipient: UBarU - $1068.25

Social Justice Ministry News
Doing M.O.R.E.: Mobilize, Organize, Register and Educate voters
The Social Justice Ministry Team has been busy meeting regularly over the summer. The purpose of SJM is to deepen our affirmation to the inherent worth and dignity of every person and to make this affirmation manifest through our work. This ministry enables Live Oak as a congregation to carry out our faith by substantially improving the quality of life for those who experience a variety of injustices in the wider community.

During the special legislative session this summer, Senate Bill 1 that enacts new voting restrictions was passed. This unfairly targets marginalized voters, especially Black and Brown voters and those with disabilities. Therefore we are partnering with the Texas Poor People's Campaign to do M.O.R.E.: Mobilize, Organize, Register and Educate voters. Voter registration efforts will take place at various Texas Community Partners (https://www.texascommunitypartnerprogram.com/) organizations. Volunteers will staff tables set up outside to assist voters who want to register.

Several of us are Deputy Voter Registrars and there are ample opportunities to be involved even if you don't want to register voters. If you're interested in serving with the Social Justice Ministry voting rights/registration group or have any questions please email us socialaction@liveoakuu.org.
Women's Labyrinth Group on Zoom
Sunday, September 12, 6:30-9 p.m.
We gather for a sharing circle followed by a finger labyrinth walk in the time of the waxing moon and the upcoming Fall Equinox (September 22). We take stock of our harvest with gratitude, and we ponder needed changes in our lives—just as the moon and the seasons change. Please join us as we walk the path that “calls us from the center of who we are and who we long to be.” Feel free to bring a song, a poem, or a short reading. The group is open to women high school age and older. The Zoom link with be sent via email for those who are on the email list for the Women’s Labyrinth Group. If you need a copy of the Live Oak Labyrinth and/or the Zoom link, contact: Linda Webster

Live Oak UU Endowment Grants
Help the Endowment Committee reach out to your favorite charitable organization
Do you know an organization that might benefit from an outreach grant from our Church? This is a reminder that Live Oak UU Church Endowment is accepting grant applications through the end of September.
The Endowment was created with the mission of providing grants that support UU values through congregational growth, as well as social and environmental action initiatives.
Proposals are being solicited from UU congregations, community organizations, or their affiliated groups. Organizations do not have to be UU to apply but need to support/advance UU values.
Grants are not awarded for the following purposes: debt reduction, bridge financing, and matching funds for other grants.
More details here.
An Invitation to an Ordination!
We have a new minister in our ranks! LOUU member Lee Legault is being ordained and you’re invited.

Due to Covid, there will only be a small in-person service for those needed in the ceremony, but please watch the ceremony online to join in Lee’s well-wishes.
