Share the Plate
Muslim Community Center offers rent help
Our Share the Plate recipient for August is the Humanitarian Assistance program at North Austin Muslim Community Center. It provides about $10,000 a month in rental assistance to qualified applicants, some of whom are refugees. You can learn more about the Center and its supportive services at namcc.org.
You can contribute to Share the Plate during Sunday services or donate on our website. All checks and envelopes marked “Share the Plate” and half of all undesignated cash during the services will be donated to recipients. Or go to the Donate link on the Live Oak website’s home page. Use the drop down menu to designate your donation for “Share the Plate”.

A Few Words from the Minister
Rev. Joanna will be on sabbatical through August 31. During this time, we will be sharing some of her writings.
This week's article:
We really wanted to be one community, where adults know little kids, teens are treated as the young adults they are becoming, and all ages mix together in the central gathering of the congregation: the worship service. We are often so age-segregated nowadays. We liked the idea of offering an alternative.

Elevator Project Update
After months of delays on a critical electrical panel, our contractor was able to have a custom panel made to unblock progress! Schindler, the elevator manufacturer, inspected the work done so far, and cleared us for install, so we're just waiting on an install date to be set! There are a few more steps after the install but we are getting close y'all!

Live Oak is a 17% Voting Congregation
Are you a Voter? Have you submitted your voting pledge card yet?
If you want to make the Voting Pledge at Live Oak, fill out the voting pledge card found on the table under the bulletin board in the narthex. Put your completed card in the bright green box next to the blank cards. Hopefully, we’ll see our voter percentage increase ASTRONOMICALLY soon.

RECLAIM OUR VOTE POSTCARD PROJECT
Postcarding increases voter engagement!
UUs are all about getting out the vote this November! Here at Live Oak we've sent letters with the Vote Forward project; now we're going to participate in another get out the vote project starting this Sunday.
It will be an exciting, busy day. Our new DLFD will be at church after the service and I'll be asking for your participation with Reclaim Our Vote Postcard Project.
This is a project of Texas UU Justice Ministry that is partnering with Reclaim Our Vote, a campaign of the Center for Common Ground. These are different addresses than Vote Forward. The postcards are individually scripted for the particular county they're going to; in our case, to registered voters in Smith County. These are often BIPOC, rural, and youth voters. An essential part of the program is to seek and support voters that are often overlooked and ignored.
Everything will be provided: postcards (look how cool they are!), stamps, and a script. If you have good handwriting, I want you! If you don't have good handwriting, I want you! There are steps everyone can help with. Kids are welcome to help, too. Stamps are stickers, right?!
Voting this November is critical. Let's do what we can to get people to the polls.

Hands on Housing Needs Hands
Looking for a Hands on Handoff
Hands on Housing, a project of Interfaith Action of Central Texas, "utilizes volunteers and skilled professionals to repair the homes of senior citizens and disabled individuals who are living in deep poverty. Our goal is to keep our homeowners safe and help them remain in the homes and neighborhoods they love."
Live Oak UU has participated in this activity for a number of years, usually during events in the Spring or Fall, lasting up to a couple weeks. We are currently evaluating our continued participation and are in search of a team lead who would organize a Live Oak team. If you have an interest in being team lead, or have questions, please contact Wayne Gregory

Surge in VoteForward Letter Writing Campaign
VoteForward--more workers and more letters Aug.21
Live Oak members completed over 100 more VoteForward letters last Sunday in less than an hour! More than 10 of us wrote, addressed, stamped, folded, and sealed letters to remind Texas voters to vote November 8. It’s remarkable what a small crew can accomplish. We have inspired each other to get more letters ready for the stuffing and sealing when we meet again next month. You can print your own letters, add your personal statement and bring them next month or plan to join us for the final steps of getting the letters in their envelopes. We provide the stamps and envelopes; we just need willing hands to get the letters in the envelopes ready to mail on October 29. All ages can help at any stage of preparing these letters. If you want more information about the VoteForward organization or if you want to get your own list of Texas voters, access this site: VoteForward.org. Watch for an announcement of our workday in September.

Thank You from Barb Rausin
As a thank you to Live Oak Barb is offering her furniture and household items free of charge to us. She no longer has need for ‘stuff’ as she is closing up her apt and is living permanently in a nursing home. She would love to see things put to good use by a community that she loves. Here is a list of some of the available items and the address. Her son Eric will be at her apt through Sunday. Questions? Text him at 239-834-0097.
