WE Talk About Bruno
Rev. Joanna Fontaine Crawford
There has been a movement this past year to censor what students can learn and read about -- Critical Race Theory, LGBTQUIA+, unvarnished history, etc. Not here at Live Oak, and not in Unitaran Universalism.

Share the Plate
Going forward with Lilith Fund
Lilith Fund, the oldest abortion fund in Texas, is our Share the Plate recipient for September. It has been forced to pause direct funding of abortions while it evaluates the impact of the U.S. Supreme Court's summer decision in the Dobbs case and Texas laws that have made almost all abortions illegal in the state.
As of August, Lilith Fund is offering direct financial assistance for non-abortion reproductive healthcare, including ultrasounds, screenings, contraceptives, counseling and more. The Fund also is assisting Texans who are traveling out of state for care. The group continues to operate its hotline to provide information to callers and continues to build reproductive justice programming in compliance with the law. You can learn more at lilithfund.org.
You can contribute to Share the Plate during Sunday services or donate on our website. All checks and envelopes marked “Share the Plate” and half of all undesignated cash during the services will be donated to recipients. Or go to https://www.liveoakuu.org/community/donate/
The Social Justice Ministry Team in August selected Share the Plate recipients for the last four months of 2022. The other nonprofits selected are Hospice Austin (October), Hope Alliance (November) and Lone Star Circle of Care (December).

Invest in Our Future
The Live Oak congregation has made a commitment to growth. We are delivering the message of a liberal religion in our community. Investing in growth needs a financial commitment to insure our future. Please make a bold and prompt statement to this future by pledging this month. You can make your pledge in several ways.
Scan this QR Code on your phone.
Fill out a paper pledge form on Sunday morning.
However you pledge, we thank you!

Did you meet someone new last Sunday?
Live Oak has had many interesting visitors recently. Some are long-time UUs and some are attending a UU church for the first time. You are sure to be enriched by hearing their stories. Even if you are attending remotely, you can meet new people. This article gives some ideas for meeting and welcoming new people.

Newsflash!
Live Oak UU is a 24% Voting Congregation
Please sign the pledge if you plan to vote Nov. 8
The number of Live Oak members who have pledged to vote this fall has grown this week. We are still a ways from our goal of 100% though. If you plan to vote, please sign the pledge card that can be found in the Narthex next to the bright green return box.

Our Numbers of VoteForward Letters are Increasing!
Could We Mail 500 Letters??
Live Oak members have completed 320 Vote Forward letters so far this election cycle, so 500 is not impossible! These letters will go out to registered Texas voters who are not regular voters. We hope to spur them on to the polls this fall. We will meet again Oct. 23 after the service for one last push to get even more letters ready for the national mail-out Oct. 29. Please join us to stuff and seal envelopes or write letters. Bring the letters you've printed out yourself or come work on some that other members have ready. If you want more information about Vote Forward, check out their website VoteForward.org

HELP DISTRIBUTE FOOD TO OUR NEIGHBORS
Live Oak Church will be distributing food to our neighbors at Fresh Food for All and need volunteers to help.
This month, on Friday, September 16th, Fresh Food For All participants will be able to select their own produce (Farmer's Market style), instead of having the prepackaged produce placed in their car trunks. We will need to help fill bags, direct traffic, weigh the food, and help people carry food to their cars. If you can help anytime on September 16th between 8:30 and 11AM. RSVP to Donna Durbin at: HCCM@liveoakuu.org
