Share the Plate:
Share-the-Plate to Save Their Health
Our August Share the Plate community partner is Samaritan Health Ministries. This is a clinic for uninsured patients in Williamson and Travis Counties. They provide free or low-cost medical, dental, pharmaceutical, women's health and mental health services. All designated "share the plate" donations, and half of all undesignated donations, will be given to Samaritan Health Ministries for the month of August.

Special Notices

Add your words to fall Stewardship book!
The Stewardship Committee is putting together a book for our members and friends during this fall's campaign, and we'd like your words--just a couple of sentences or a paragraph--to inspire, reassure, and amuse readers.

Share your thoughts to one of the questions on the quick form  (up to about 75 words). Feel free to answer more than one by submitting the form multiple times.

Join us for the first annual LOUU Lasagna Dinner
Tuesday, August 11th at 6:30pm
We'll all make our favorite version of the dish and meet on Zoom for some Covid appropriate dinner fun! We'll break into small rooms, or "tables"
To chat, swap recipes, and reconnect over a meal - as families have done forever.
As an enticement the lovely Mary will be baking homemade bread for the first 14 gluten tolerant homes that sign up! Sign up is available on the Facebook event or via this link.
We can't wait to see you there!

Hill Country Community Ministries Annual Meeting
On July 23, I attended the annual meeting of Hill Country Community Ministries member churches. You can read the HCCM meeting packet here.

Representing Live Oak, I voted "yes" on all ballot measures. It was impressive to hear from the President that even though HCCM lost 85% of their volunteer workforce because of covid concerns, they have continued serving families in need, over and above the number served last year. (In the meeting, the Director, Tiesa Holloway, specifically mentioned the increases Live Oak has seen in families served.)

If you would like to be more involved with HCCM, perhaps serving as a delegate to their annual meeting, please let me know! -- Rev. Joanna

Visit Live Oak's Online Sanctuary
Need a moment to catch your breath, to meditate, to be reminded of your faith values? Our "online sanctuary" is open 24-7. On this page, you'll find videos of music, meditations, and readings to soothe your soul. You can find the sanctuary by going to LiveOakUU.org-->Worship-->Online Sanctuary, or simply bookmark this link. New pieces will be added on a regular basis.

New leadership at the Safety Team
Building a safer Live Oak
The Executive Team is happy to announce the appointment of Joel Bercu as leader of the Safety Team. Many thanks to Joel for leading us to a safer Live Oak.

Something New With The Talent Show!
We're adding something new to the August 15 talent show!
In addition to talent acts, we're inviting anyone who's been attending Live Oak, not just members, to submit a "get to know me" video to be shown during the talent show. We're especially interested in having newer/newish people (but anyone is welcome!) to make a video introducing yourself to the Live Oak community. We haven't been able to mingle and chat and get to know you in person so tell us about yourself, pets, family, work, passions, hobbies, anything you want us to know about you. You can also do a talent act if you wish. Anything to help us know you better!

Just to give us a head up, we ask everyone who's planning to submit videos of either kind to send a quick email to talentshow@liveoakuu.org by Monday Aug 3 (new deadline) just to let us know you're planning to participate.

When your talent or other video is ready, send it to the same email address, talentshow@liveoakuu.org by Friday Aug 7. Follow that up with another quick email saying you sent a video, to be sure we get it.

The Talent Show will be on Saturday, Aug 15 at 5 p.m. on Youtube Premiere (same as worship services). Send any questions to talentshow@liveoakuu.org.

Enriching Connections has become an even more vital part of all that we do. We want to make it as easy for you to stay connected as possible. So we encourage you to add something to your morning routine. As you sip your coffee or tea, go to this link:  http://www.liveoakuu.org/whats-happening-this-week/
It will have the most up-to-date information about connection events. Be sure and save the link! We want to enrich connections, but we are also putting safeguards in place so that we can feel safer when we gather in this way. (But if you have a friend who might want to join, feel free to privately send them the link.)
