A Radical Idea: 8-8-8
Rev. Joanna Fontaine Crawford
The labor movement worked for a vision of a life designed to hold meaningful work, adequate rest, and joy-filled living. As we design our own lives, are we honoring what they fought for?

Share the Plate
October is National Cancer Awareness month--let's remember the youngest people cancer impacts.
Our October Share the Plate community partner is Camp Kesem. Kesem is a nationwide community, driven by passionate college student leaders, that supports children through and beyond their parent’s cancer. Kesem is the largest national organization dedicated to supporting children impacted by a parent’s cancer, at no cost to families. Their innovative and fun-filled programs provide children with peers who understand their unique needs, and create long-lasting impact. Over 5 million children have been impacted by a parent's cancer and Kesem serves about 10,000 children a year. www.campkesem.org
Go to the Donate link on the Live Oak website’s home page. Use the drop down menu to designate your donation for “Share the Plate”. In addition to those designated donations, half of all undesignated gifts in September will go to the fund.

Stewardship Pledge Campaign 2022
Plan your pledge for 2022
The LOUU Stewardship Pledge Campaign 2022 coming! Kickoff is Sunday, October 24th. Be on the lookout for an email with your pledge information.
This year our theme is Snap! Crackle! Pop! (Curious? More to come about what that means). Stewardship Pledge Campaign 2022 will be one week long ending on October 31st, not the usual three weeks so you will want to act quickly.
Live Oak counts on annual pledges to create its budget for the coming year, and an annual pledge is also a requirement for active membership.
We look forward to having everyone's pledges submitted through our online pledging form. Then we’ll celebrate with an outdoor Stewardship Celebration and Raffle on October 31st. Mark your calendars!
To donate items for the Stewardship raffle, please send Alyssa Goss an email and she’ll arrange a collection time with you! We appreciate your talent and look forward to seeing all the amazing things our community is donating!

Fuller Conversations: Living Into Values
Session 1: The Locus of Moral Authority
On second Sundays of most months this year, adults are invited to drop in for our *Fuller Conversations on living into values. These sessions are based on What We Choose, a UUA curriculum on ethics.
"Development, clarification, refinement, and expansion of our ethical thinking often occur in the midst of crisis or in response to an event or relationship that calls our world view into question. However, this program offers an intentional process of engagement with others in examining ethical concepts, dilemmas, and questions to help participants clarify and expand their ethical understanding independent of a personal crisis. Participants examine how they have arrived at ethical positions that they hold dear. They explore new perspectives, identify areas for further questions and exploration, and perhaps more fully embrace ethical positions they reach through careful discernment." --UUA Tapestry of Faith
*Margaret Fuller (1810-1850) was a Unitarian writer associated with the Transcendentalist movement. She edited the journal, "The Dial," and was committed to the idea that deep conversations lead to personal growth.

Membership Committee Needs Your Ideas!!
We miss you! We all miss each other! What can we do to get those lovin' fellowship vibes flowing?
The Membership Committee will be discussing ideas to strengthen the bonds of fellowship within our church community and we're hoping that you'll join us! Do you have a wild and crazy idea? Strong opinions? Thoughts of fancy? We want to hear them!
I know we're all sick of hearing how "unprecedented" things are, but heck, it's true. So we're trying to figure out what people want, what we miss most, and how we can start to find our ways back to one another.
Please join us on Oct 19th at 8pm to discuss fellowship needs and opportunities. If you are unable to attend but have ideas that you'd like heard please feel free to email Reverend Joanna, or Becky McPherson in advance.
Zoom ya' then!
