The Love Ethic
Rev. Joanna Fontaine Crawford

Author and activist bell hooks notes that progressives who reference love are often treated with disdain for being naïve, but she contends it is this force that will lead us to dismantle systems of oppression. On this Valentine’s Day, we’ll consider the idea of love as a choice and a force we can channel for transformation.

Join us for Worship at 10:00am: the link will be on the Live Oak homepage: www.liveoakuu.org

Join us for Fellowship Time immediately following the service (approx. 10:45/11:00) https://link.liveoakuu.org/FellowshipHour

Share the Plate
Make this fund your Valentine
The Minister’s Discretionary Fund is our February 2021 Share the Plate recipient. The fund is a resource Rev. Joanna can use to help members facing an immediate hardship or to respond to others who seek help from our church. The money has gone to such needs as travel to a parent’s funeral, school tuition and Covid-related medical devices.

Go to the Donate link on the Live Oak website’s home page. Use the drop down menu to designate your donation for the “Ministers’ Discretionary Fund.” In addition to those designated donations, half of all undesignated gifts in February will go to the fund.

January recipient: Hill Country Community Ministries $850.00

Still here, still virtual!
February 16th 7 - 8:30 pm (third Tuesday of the month)

It's a new year! And we're still staying at home, but getting together via zoom. Calling on crafters, stitchers, project procrastinators! What have you been working on? Or, if you're like me and haven't picked up a craft project since we last met, this is your chance to get motivated. I'll be there with my crochet hook! Look for the zoom link on the What's Happening page.
HELP DISTRIBUTE FOOD TO OUR NEIGHBORS
Live Oak Church will be distributing food to our neighbors at Fresh Food Friday and need volunteers to help.

* Thursday, February 18 @ 1:00 p.m. to approximately 2:30 p.m. food needs to be separated into smaller quantities for distribution. Meet at Hill Country Community Ministries, 1005 Lacy Dr., Leander, TX 78641

* Friday, February 19 @ 8:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. in the Live Oak parking lot. This is when we distribute the food to our neighbors. Volunteers are needed to set up, direct people to the drive through area, collect client information, and place food in the client’s trunk. You do not need to remain the entire 2 & 1/2 hours.

HCCM has asked for 7 people for each activity. We are asking you to please let us know if you will be able to participate in either activity, so we know if we have enough or too many people.

To RSVP or for any questions please contact Donna Durbin at: [email protected]

Got a Shot of Your Shot?
This vaccine is amazing - if I could, I'd be ringing a church bell every time someone in the congregation got theirs! In lieu of that -- when you get the vaccine, would you send me a photo? It can be a photo of you getting the shot, or smiling afterward, or even just a shot of the bandaid on your arm. These photos will probably be used in a future worship video. Send to: [email protected]
