Learning from the Blitz
Rev. Joanna Fontaine Crawford

The Blitz of England by Nazi Germany holds many parallels to life right now. What can we learn from their experience?

Join us for Worship at 10:00am: the link will be on the Live Oak homepage: www.liveoakuu.org

Join us for Fellowship Time immediately following the service (approx. 10:45/11:00): https://link.liveoakuu.org/FellowshipHour
Share the Plate
Live Oak’s Share the Plate recipient for August is Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas. They create healthier communities by providing comprehensive reproductive and related healthcare services, delivering science-based education programs, and serving as a strong advocate for reproductive justice in Texas. In 2020 Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas had 93,602 patient visits in Austin, Dallas, Denton, El Paso, Fort Worth, Lubbock, Paris, Plano, Tyler, Waco, and surrounding communities

Support for Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas is needed now more than ever with legislators enacting 90 abortion restrictions across the country, including 12 abortion bans in states like Texas, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Montana and more. In May of this year Governor Greg Abbott signed into law Senate Bill 8, which seeks to ban all abortion in Texas after six weeks of pregnancy, well before many people know they're pregnant. With measures like these, Planned Parenthood's comprehensive health services are urgently needed in our state to keep promoting healthy and safe Texas citizens. Please visit their website for more information and to get to involved - Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas, Inc.

To help support Planned Parenthood, go to the Donate link on the Live Oak website’s home page. Use the drop down menu to designate your donation for “Share the Plate”.

Social Justice Update
Does LOUU want to do this as a Congregation?? (Sorry the link didn't work last week!)

The Poor People’s Campaign: A Prophetic Pledge
“The Prophetic Pledge is a call for at least 1000 faith and community organizations to come together and pledge to each turn out 1000 people to vote. Faith and community organizations that sign on to the Prophetic Pledge are signing on to help build a movement that votes and builds the power we need to hold our elected officials accountable to the policies that the people are demanding.”

Please fill out this Google Form and let us know.  (It would involve interested members to be trained in Voter Registration.)

HELP DISTRIBUTE FOOD TO OUR NEIGHBORS
Live Oak Church will be distributing food to our neighbors at Fresh Food Friday and need volunteers to help:
Thursday, August 19 @ 1:00 p.m. to approximately 2:30 p.m. food needs to be separated into smaller quantities for distribution. Meet at Hill Country Community Ministries, 1005 Lacy Dr, Leander, TX 78641
Friday, August 20 @ 8:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. in the Live Oak parking lot. This is when we distribute the food to our neighbors. Volunteers are needed to set up, direct people to the drive through area, collect client information, and place food in the client’s trunk. You do not need to remain the entire 2 & 1/2 hours. HCCM has asked for 7 people for each activity. We are asking you to please let us know if you will be able to participate in either activity, so we know if we have enough or too many people. To RSVP or for any questions please contact Donna Durbin at: HCCM@liveoakuu.org

An Invitation to an Ordination!
We have a new minister in our ranks! LOUU member Lee Legault is being ordained and you’re invited.
Lee Legault will be ordained into the UU ministry on Saturday, Sept 18 from 2-4 pm. Everyone at LOUU is warmly invited. There will be a service, and then a small cake reception. Right now the event is scheduled to be both in person at First UU and held on zoom, but depending on covid numbers it may all switch to zoom. No need to rsvp either way, but if you do attend in person and cooking for others is your love language, please feel free to bring some finger food (because if there is one thing UUs do united, it’s over-feed people)! We will keep you posted on whether the event is all virtual or not.

Live Oak Seniors' Coffee Hour
Join us for Coffee hour on Thursdays at 10:30am. On the 1st & 3rd week of the month, Rev. Joanna will lead a lively discussion. The other weeks will be an informal gathering. The Zoom link will be on the What's Happening page.
