Vocal Workshop and Talent Show
Polish up on your vocal technique and show it off too!
These two events actually have a whole month between them.
On Sat. April 6 at 10:30 AM, Susan Meitz will give an hour and a half WORKSHOP FOR TREBLE VOICES in the Sauber Music Building. The basses and tenors will have their chance at a later date, because this is for altos and sopranos (including children). Susan has a degree in Vocal Performance from Texas State, and has performed in many area choirs regularly, including St. David's Episcopal where she is employed as the soprano section leader. Having taken a summer's worth of lessons from her myself, I am overjoyed to be able to share her expertise with members and friends of Live Oak! If you have any questions about it please let me know at: music@liveoakuu.org.

TALENT SHOW Friday, May 10th, 6:30PM in the sanctuary. All performing arts welcome. Finally, we will get to see your hidden (or not so hidden) talent! Please sign up for a spot soon with me, at the above address.

The Red Bench Conversations - Genocide
With the US Administration's attitude towards immigrants, genocide is a timely topic:
The next Red Bench Conversations will be a special event on genocide. The presenter will be one of the last holocaust survivors, a woman who not only knew Anne Frank, but whose mother married Anne Frank's father after the war so was, posthumously, Anne Frank's step-sister.

The topic is especially relevant. When Donna and I (Jon Dubrin) were in Armenia, we visited their genocide memorial. One statement that hit home for me was that the first step is dehumanizing. We are already seeing what happens when you are bombarded by rhetoric about the "influx" of immigrants as - animals, terrorists, murderers, rapists . . . Where is this leading? This is an opportunity for great discussions.
