Share the Plate
In March, all checks and envelopes marked "Share the Plate" and half of all undesignated cash will go to support th e mission of  Epilepsy Foundation Central & South Texas.  They strive to help people with Epilepsy to not define their lives by their diagnosis, but to lead active productive lives in supportive bully-free communities. As one of 50 Epilepsy Foundation National Organization affiliates, they are the only organization dedicated to the health and welfare of more than 155,000 individuals with Epilepsy residing in 79 counties of Central & South Texas. Having taken a summer's worth of lessons from her myself, I am overjoyed to be able to share her expertise with members and friends of Live Oak! If you have any questions about it please let me know at: music@liveoakuu.org.

In the Community
The Red Bench Conversations - Genocide
With the US Administration's attitude towards immigrants, genocide is a timely topic:
The next Red Bench Conversations will be a special event on genocide. The presenter will be one of the last holocaust survivors, a woman who not only knew Anne Frank, but whose mother married Anne Frank's father after the war so was, posthumously, Anne Frank's step-sister.

The topic is especially relevant. When Donna and I (Jon Dubrin) were in Armenia, we visited their genocide memorial. One statement that hit home for me was that the first step is dehumanizing. We are already seeing what happens when you are bombarded by rhetoric about the "influx" of immigrants as - animals, terrorists, murderers, rapists . . . Where is this leading? This is an opportunity for great discussions.
