A Thrive for the People Newsletter

Hello,

Here are the top five regrets of the dying, gathered by palliative care worker Bronnie Ware:

  1. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
  2. I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.
  3. I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.
  4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
  5. I wish I had let myself be happier.

Although it can be hard and uncomfortable to reflect on death, it can bring insight into the way you live. As you think about your life as it is right now, ask yourself:

  • What would be my biggest regret if I died today?
  • What parts of my life feel out of alignment with my values and a life worth living?
  • Where am I holding back out of fear, perfectionism, or people-pleasing?
  • What areas of my life am I settling instead of choosing what I truly want?
  • What small shift can I make today that my future self would thank me for?

Take some time today to pause and reflect. The top regrets of the dying remind us that time is not infinite, and that postponing authenticity, joy, and intimacy only creates distance from the life we long for.

News from Our Practice

We live in a culture that celebrates self-sufficiency, but the truth is that relationships and community give our lives meaning and purpose.

At Thrive for the People, we believe that healing happens in relationships and community. This summer, we have created new opportunities to build community and create meaningful relationships.

Networking Event

In June, we partnered with Dr. Stephanie Irwin of Rise Performance and Health and Umpqua Bank to host another networking event. Our participants included mental health therapists, psychologists, physical therapists, coaches, yoga teachers, physicians, reiki masters, and nutritionists. Here at Thrive for the People, we believe that healing needs to be multidimensional. Collaborating with trusted providers enables us to deliver the best care to our clients.

Love Notes from Strangers

In July, we introduced our new interactive experience called "Love Notes from Strangers." We asked our participants to write an anonymous note of love, compassion, and support - something you wish someone had said to you or something you’d say to a friend who needs it. Then take a note from a stranger. We can all use more loving words from each other.

We were so moved by the excitement, heart and thoughtfulness that each person put into the notes. Watching strangers write words of love and encouragement to someone they may never meet reminded us of how powerful simple acts of kindness can be. Watch the series of videos of our participants reading the notes on our Instagram.

Couples and Cash: Communication Strategies That Pay Dividends

Talking about money can be one of the most loaded and avoided topics in relationships. Money is never just about money. It’s about power, trust, security, freedom, and the stories we carry from our families, cultures, and past relationships.

In this unique workshop, our team of expert couples therapists from Thrive for the People partners with a financial advisor from Columbia Private Bank to guide you through practical tools and emotionally intelligent strategies for navigating financial conversations.
