Hundreds Converge in Enid for Northwest District Livestock Show
The 85 th Annual Northwest District Junior Livestock Show is the biggest secret in Enid to anyone outside of the agricultural community. This week-long event brings hundreds of exhibitors and their families to town. This year 889 exhibitors are registered with over 2,400 animals entered.
“After months of feeding, grooming and working with their animal project, these students are ready to enter the show ring in Enid with the hope of walking out with a blue ribbon in hand,” said Jennifer Kisling, NWDJLS General Superintendent.
The show is open to the public and free to watch. “I encourage everyone to come out and support our area’s students as they compete,” said Kisling. “Even if you don’t know anything about the livestock industry, this is an opportunity to see some of the best and brightest youth in our area. The level of responsibility and respect in these students is unmatched. It’s fun to watch.”

Enid Day at the Capitol
The 12th Annual Enid Day at the Capitol was held on February 26. A large group of Enid business and school leaders attended and helped host the event. Representatives from the Enid Chamber, ERDA, and the City of Enid participated in the networking breakfast along with officials from Enid Public Schools, Autry Technology Center and Enid's college campuses. Also attending were members of Leadership Greater Enid Class 28. The event was well attended by legislators, agency officials and staff. Special thanks to Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell, Senator Roland Pederson and State Representatives Chad Caldwell and Denise Crosswhite-Hader for speaking to our Enid group. The primary discussion topics were education and healthcare. We appreciate our legislators' participation and support.

LGE Class XXVIII Spotlight
ROBB MILLS
Hometown: Altus, Oklahoma
Family: I am married to my wonderful wife, Carrie Mills. We have two kids, Brody who is 10 and Macy who is 7.
Occupation/Profession: I have been in education for 16 years. I started as a teacher and a coach at Enid High School. I taught Biology and coached several different sports. The last three years I taught, I was the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Enid High School. The last four years, I have been working in Administration for Enid Public Schools. I was Vice Principal at Longfellow Middle School for three years, and am now the Principal at Waller Middle School . This will be my second year at Waller Middle School.
What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?: If you reach a point in life when you are down, looking for purpose, or you are just in a rut, do something for someone else. When you begin to think about others, your vision starts to become clear.
What qualities do you look for in a leader?: Leaders must have a clear vision. Vision must include the big picture and also the small details. One more quality that I believe is vital is a leader must continue to serve. Service keeps our heart in the right place and helps guide our vision.
If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winning a medal for?: The Olympics really needs a competition in which athletes are dressed in their work clothes, and they go into a closet and change into their at-home comfortable clothes. I believe that I can get into mesh shorts and a t-shirt as fast as anyone can as soon as I get home.
Favorite thing about Enid: My favorite thing about Enid is that it is big enough to have events that a big city would have with a small town feel.
TARA TURNER-COLEMAN
Hometown: Enid, Oklahoma
Family: Married to husband, Justin Coleman, since 2006. We have 5 boys, Kaleb (18), Kane (12), Kassin (11), Kamden (8), and Kage (7). We have two boxer dogs named Karma and Kanji.
Occupation/Profession: I work for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections as a Probation and Parole Officer. I supervise offenders as they transition back into society after incarceration or after sentencing.
What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?: "Each day on Earth is a gift. Pay it forward."
What qualities do you look for in a leader?: Qualities imperative in a good leader are passion, determination, humility, and strength.
If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winning a medal for?:
Multi-tasking.
Favorite thing about Enid: I love the way Enid is constantly changing, while staying steadfast in its traditions. I love how even the biggest skeptics fall in love with Enid. Most of all, I love the feeling of home, comfort and love Enid provides to its citizens new and old.
