Volume V, 2022
The highest aim of art is interpretation rather than realism. Of course, one must present truth, but the highest is interpretation.
T.C. Steele

Relive the 2021 Indiana Jazz Exchange with MoReJasPIg, a highly expressive lockdown project that we were able to present despite all odds against us and the rest of the world- our 2022 project brings together interpretations of Hoosier Impressionist T.C. Steele's work and spirit, May 3, Altes Pfandhaus, Cologne

Steele, we will share compositional sketches capturing the moment with a focus on color and interaction. It's a great honor to be one of the recipients of the inaugural New Works Commission by the Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel for our family collaboration Fly High. The process of transformation will be captured with Cyr Wheel choreography by Zackary Herzig to music by the family band. The performance and talkback is June 4 at the Tarkington Theater - here is all the info. And enjoy this recent IU performance by Zackary, who is also one of the winners at the Indiana Comicon costume contests.
And finally - the projected release date for the Routledge Companion to Jazz and Gender is July 13. Together with James Reddan (Western Oregon University) and Michael Kahr (KUG, Graz/ Jam Lab, Vienna) we edited (and contributed our own) 40+ chapters discussing the topic from historical, social, philosophical, and pedagogical perspectives. This comprehensive resource provides knowledge and action items for practitioners, educators, and advocates. Together with members of the German Jazz Union, I will lead a discussion on the book and the topic at Jazz Ahead in Bremen on Saturday, April 30, 1pm. Another presentation will take place May 4 in Frankfurt. Please contact me via email to schedule talks and presentations and work on further initiatives. More info on the book is here.
