New: Colorado Medical Society primer on paid leave laws
The COVID-19 pandemic brought about a number of changes at both the federal and state levels related to paid leave for employees. To help Colorado physicians and practice leaders navigate the changes, the Colorado Medical Society produced a primer that provides a general overview of the new paid sick leave landscape for Colorado health care workers.

In short, there are three types of paid sick leave.

  • COVID-19 sick leave: 80 hours; effective through Dec. 31; applies to essentially all Colorado employers
  • Sick leave for future public health emergencies: 80 hours; effective 2021 and beyond; applies to all Colorado employers
  • Regular sick leave: 48 hours per year; effective 2021 and beyond; applies to some employers in 2021 and all in 2022

AMA announces new CPT codes as COVID-19 advancements expand
The American Medical Association (AMA) published an update to the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) code set that includes two code additions for reporting medical services sparked by the public health response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first addition, CPT code 99072, was approved in response to sweeping measures adopted by medical practices and health care organizations to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), while safely providing patients with access to high-quality care during in-person interactions with health care professionals. The additional supplies and clinical staff time to perform safety protocols described by code 99072 allow for the provision of evaluation, treatment or procedural services during a public health emergency in a setting where extra precautions are taken to ensure the safety of patients as well as health care professionals.

The second addition, CPT code 86413, was approved in response to the development of laboratory tests that provide quantitative measurements of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, as opposed to a qualitative assessment (positive/negative) of SAR-CoV-2 antibodies provided by laboratory tests reported by other CPT codes. By measuring antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, the tests reported by 86413 can investigate a person’s adaptive immune response to the virus and help access the effectiveness of treatments used against the infection.

Toolkit: Promote voting in health care settings
Physicians and practices have a role in promoting voting to patients and staff to increase representation among all voter groups, particularly those who are traditionally underrepresented. VoteHealth2020 presents a bipartisan toolkit for practices and providers that includes printable flyers, stickers and general information on voting in Colorado. Access it here. Don't forget to register and vote as well; doctors historically tend to vote less than the general population and other professionals.
Help us spread the word: Become a Health First Colorado provider today!
The Department of Health Care Policy & Financing (the Department) has asked us to help spread the word: we need more Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid Program) providers to deliver care to Coloradans.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the department is asking health care providers to join them in ensuring all Coloradans have access to quality health care during this public health crisis by becoming a Health First Colorado provider.

Currently, the department is offering incentives to increase provider enrollment and help provide an important public service. In an effort to increase provider enrollment, the department is:

  • Allowing temporary enrollment for providers during the federally designated COVID-19 emergency.
  • Waiving the application fee and fingerprinting process for applicable providers.
  • Waiving site surveys for applicable providers.

If you know someone who might be interested in becoming a Health First Colorado provider, please ask them to visit the Provider Enrollment website at co.gov/hcpf/provider-enrollment or call the Provider Services Call Center at 1-844-235-2387, Option 2, then option 5.
