Our June 10 event features guest speaker Nick Maya, Program Manager at the Coalition for Sonoran Desert Protection. Nick specializes in regional conservation policy, land‑use planning, and wildlife connectivity across the Sonoran Desert. His background includes leading collaborative public engagement at the University of Montana’s Center for Natural Resources and Environmental Policy, working with federal and state agencies, tribes, private landowners, and nonprofits on land and recreation planning. He holds degrees from New York University and the University of Montana, along with a graduate certificate in Natural Resources Conflict Resolution. Outside of work, Nick enjoys fly‑fishing, trap shooting, curating playlists, and exploring the outdoors with his partner and dog.

Nick will discuss the Coalition’s conservation efforts, the proposed Interstate I‑11, its history and current status and how existing roadways and future development—including I‑11—affect wildlife health, habitat connectivity, and long‑term ecological resilience.
