Dear Global Christian Warriors,
At the start of a calendar year perhaps many of us make resolutions for change. May I suggest placing real repentance at the top of your list ? Here's a description of genuine repentance from J.I. Packer:
"The New Testament word for repentance means changing one's mind so that one's views, values and ways are changed and one's whole life is lived differently. This change is radical, both inwardly and outwardly: mind and judgment, will and affections, behavior and life-style, motives and purposes, are all involved. Repenting means starting to live a new life."
So real repentance is more than just a passing emotion, an admission of a one time failure as a sinner. It's an awakening to the seriousness of our sins against God and others. It includes a deep, lasting desire to TURN from ways which are wicked compared to His Way. It includes a real decision of our free will, a bold step of spiritual maturity, to pursue from this point forward, regardless of circumstances, His narrow path to purity, following His Word as our guide.
To achieve this, perhaps some need a fearful shock: Here's a big one: If one doesn't repent they'll perish eternally. Jesus could not be more clear: " Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans because they suffered such things? I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Silaom fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish." Luke 13: 2-5
Others may come into His Kingdom through repentance by witnessing the changes in your new, more Godly, conduct. You can share your testimony of the joy and fruit which follows repentance, having pressed into your ego to remove the old man, choosing instead Christ's narrow path. Luke 16:16 may be right on point: " The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is pressing into it."
May this calendar year 2023 be a year when we experience His gift of repentance. May we bear fruit of the Holy Spirit as a witness to others. May MANY join His Kingdom, now and for eternity! It's time to "live life differently."
Jesus speaks to us today: " These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full." John 15: 11
