~ Building Brockton Community One Positive Story at a Time
Your BuzzAround supports the dignity of all human beings, is actively anti-racist, and supportive of good law enforcement policies.
August 26, 1920 is the day Congress signed the Women’s Right to Vote,
19th Amendment into law.
In celebration, Brockton City Hall will be lit up that night in the suffrage colors of purple and gold in a ceremony that’s part of the nationwide Forward Into Light campaign, led by the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission in Washington, D.C.. The night will include lighting many landmarks and buildings across the country in purple and gold including the Library of Congress and National Archives in honor of the historic suffrage slogan, “Forward through the Darkness, Forward into Light.” Enjoy the City Hall lighting at 8:00p along with tributes from many Brockton area community leaders on line at: facebook.com/BPLsuffragecelebration

The Search For An Internship During COVID

By Sasha Rockwell When my Junior year at Bridgewater State University started in the Fall of 2019, I knew it was the perfect time to take advantage of learning opportunities on and off-campus. But I didn't expect it to go the way it did.

TESTING IS THE KEY TO REOPENING THE REGION’S ECONOMY

As the state begins the gradual process of re-opening, employers and their staffs are reminded they can be tested for COVID-19 in less than 10 minutes at the state’s regional drive-thru site at Brockton High School. The governor is basing his re-opening of the state’s economy on these test results, so the more tested, the better. The tests are done by Brockton Neighborhood Health Center and Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital and take less than 10 minutes. Same-day appointments are available, and results come back usually within two days. The test is free on all insurance plans -- if someone does not have insurance, we’ll help them arrange it.

The site is open Monday and Thursday from 4-7p and Wednesday from 9-noon. Please call our testing hotline at 1-844-4test19 to register for your test, or for more information.

The deadline for inclusion in the 2021 Tide Calendar is Monday, August 31st at midnight.

Open to all, amateur and professional, young and old. Photographs must be of wild life, scenery, or recreational activities TAKEN WITHIN the Taunton River Watershed related to water use and conservation. Photographs must be taken within the last five years and must be the sole property of the submitting party.

Twelve winning images will be selected to illustrate our 2021 Annual Taunton River Tide Calendar, with one grand prize image being selected for the cover. All winners will receive a free copy of the Tide Calendar.

All files must be electronic. At this time, our volunteers do not have the time to scan photographs sent on film. Also, please send files taken from your device's camera. Images that are shot through apps like Instagram or snap chat or downloaded from Facebook, tend to be too compressed or are digitally unsuitable for print.

If you have any questions or If you are emailing files, email them one at a time to [email protected].

If you are dropping a disk in the mail, please send us an email so we can keep an eye out for it.
Please use the following mailing address:
TRWA Calendar Contest , P.O. Box 1116 Taunton, MA 02780

Images with landscape orientation work the best. We are looking for seasonal images, so don't forget to submit that lovely snowscape you took in February or the fall foliage river-scape you shot last October. (We tend to get most of summer shots. So if you want to increase your odds of having an image selected, send shots of all four seasons!)

"How do I live my Best Life?

“There is no greater gift you can give or receive than to honor your calling. It’s why you were born. And how you become most truly alive.”
~ Oprah Winfrey

“We can’t save the world by playing by the rules, because the rules have to be changed.”
~ Greta Thunberg

“Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.” ~ Robert F. Kennedy

“You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.” ~ Joe Lewis

“The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
Sometimes I think giving myself time to journal pondering: "Why did I spend this glorious day in bed? " wastes way too much time.

But then I remember the days I wasted unhappy, without money or options, feeling unloved, and I know, this is much better, to let myself feel those emotions, journal them, understand them and be able to re-frame the narrative if necessary. Ignoring and burying does not make my best life, it makes no-one happy, or productive, especially me.

I wish you all a fabulous week. Loving yourself, giving yourself the time you need, and living your best life. ~ Jacquie
