BUY BLACK! When Dr. Frederick D. Haynes III, of Friendship-West Baptist Church, announced 100 Days of Buying Black in acknowledging the 100th Commemoration of the Tulsa Race Massacre, a year ago, we joined the movement. December 31, 2021 marked 100 days of featuring Black Businesses, and we decided that the struggle continues and we must also. So enjoy reading about more Black-owned businesses and please support. We're still going strong today and we also received recognition from the National Newspaper Publishers Association for our efforts!

You’re throwing away money (and your future)
By Rodney A. Brooks

One of Americas’ biggest fears is that they will run out of money in retirement – with good reason. Most of us have not saved enough for retirement. And the pandemic made things even worse. Uvalde families celebrate with NASCAR in Fort Worth four months after mass shooting

Big Brothers Big Sisters brought more than 60 Uvalde residents to Texas Motor Speedway to build connections and joy.

FORT WORTH — Annabell Rodriguez loved going fast. No toy, whether it was a drifter car or an electric scooter, was fast enough for the 10-year-old. This weekend, Annabell’s mother, Monica Gallegos, was treated, along with 61 other Uvalde residents, to a weekend at the races at Texas Motor Speedway — four months after Annabell and 18 of her classmates and two teachers were killed in a mass shooting.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens signed an executive order which will temporarily prevent any redevelopment at the Atlanta Medical Center site. Issued on Sept. 26, the order forces the Department of City Planning to reject any applications for building permits, rezoning, and property divisions at the site. On Aug. 31, Wellstar informed the 2,800 employees at Atlanta Medical Center that the hospital will be closed on Nov. 1.
While support for Pieper Lewis had been elusive over the years — she was raised in foster care and shipped from home to home — her high school math teacher Leland Schipper stepped in to offer what no one had ever done. Schipper started a GoFundMe crowdsourcing page for Pieper to help offset the cost of the $150,000 judgment and to help her restart her life.

Pieper Lewis had never known freedom and had never enjoyed the support and guidance necessary for children to succeed. The 17-year-old pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and willful injury for fatally stabbing Zachary Brooks, 37, who authorities admitted raped her multiple times in 2020 when she was 15. Brooks, whom prosecutors acknowledged purchased Pieper from a sex trafficking ring, also was accused of repeatedly drugging and beating the teen.
The Path

As we walk through life's journey, we leave footprints. Some just show where we are going. Others redirect us when we get lost. Still others remain to guide those we leave behind. I see your footprints.
Will you/they see mine?
