Livingston CARES’ mission is to help communities and individuals locally, regionally, statewide, nationwide and globally in humanitarian projects including disaster relief and recovery efforts. CARES also provides a resource and information repository for individuals and organizations wishing to contribute to disaster recovery efforts.
Livingston CARES Newsletter Issue 2
Greetings from Geneseo and Livingston CARES. Fifteen years ago on September 8, 2005, in response to Hurricane Katrina, students, faculty, staff, alumni and community leaders met in the MacVittie College Union and decided to create a campus and community organization to help the Gulf Coast of Mississippi recover from the disaster. Fifteen years later, we are still helping families recover from other natural disasters.

As a volunteer on one of our 80 service trips to Mississippi, New York City, New Jersey, Florida, Texas, and most recently Puerto Rico, you made a difference in the lives of over 200 families. As we celebrate 15 years of service, our staff created a newsletter to share our work and our history. We know you made a difference and we know that you were changed through these experiences. Help us celebrate by sharing an updated version of a story or a favorite trip photo. Trouble remembering? See our website at  for trip reports in our annual reports to the community.

Home Away from Home Respite Program :
Livingston CARES has been partnering with the Home Away from Home Respite Program since 2018 in much the same way as we support the Food Pantry. This partnership provides another opportunity for CARES to contribute to positive community development and change at the local level and allows HAFH to apply for funding and other resources. Home Away from Home, led by Director Sharon Leary, has a mission to provide respite care to assist families in Livingston County who have a loved one dealing with a memory related illness.

HAFH offers a safe and welcoming environment for everyone with trained college student volunteers from diverse majors like Education, Psychology, Neuroscience, Biology, and Communication, who provide the best care possible to our participants in order to give family members time to attend to their own needs.

The Home Away from Home Respite Program meets at the Geneseo Interfaith Center on operates Tuesdays and Thursdays. For more information visit their website: Home Away from Home Respite Program or contact Sharon Leary at / 585-245-6057
