Move over France. Livonia will be the the place to have fun July 26, 2020.
The typewriter walked into the Blue Plate last month and sitting there were two hometown businessmen having breakfast. Chuck Dardas, being inducted into the 1835 Livonia City Hall of Fame this October and Dave Spivey, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame with the Class of 2016. My thinking ran the list of possible topics these two could be discussing. The answer is not what I was expecting but I have been smiling ever since.

Europe has the Tour de France every July well get ready America Livonia will host its own Tour d Lee-Vone-EE-Ya or perhaps to be referred to as the  The Nicholas Strumbos and Livonia First Responders Tour d Livonia b enefiting Livonia Kids And Families and Livonia Public Schools Pantry operations.

Starting July 26, 2020 the Tour de Livonia will travel the streets and parks of Livonia touring 20-25 miles. The course is tentatively  scheduled to begin in Bicentennial Park with plans to connect some of the 65 Livonia parks and nature trails. Involved in the early planning is St. Mary Hospital, Healthy Livonia, Parks and Recreation and AlphaUSA. And yes, the Livonia police department along with the fire department are expected to be a part of the planning and implementation.

Needless to say more organizations and lots of volunteers will be participating in this one of a kind event. Well, one of a kind for Wayne County Michigan anyway.

No word on whether   Geraint Thomas, Britain, the number one rider in the world will be participating as the Tour de France is scheduled at the same time. But we can only wonder. Or is it hope.

The typewriter understands that activities are being considered for younger bikers, perhaps riding through a course on an enclosed parking lot--letting them get a sense of the enjoyment of bikes at an early age.

Tour d Lee-Vone-EE-Ya or rather the
The Nicholas Strumbos and Livonia First Responders Tour d Livonia is around the corner--13 months.

Musings readers are interested in the upcoming contested campaign for City Council. We check in to their most recent facebook postings to see what they are up to in the world of retail politics--being out in public meeting people.

Brandon McCullough, candidate City Council: I had the privilege of attending the  Rotary Club of Livonia  luncheon today. What a great organization and amazing people coming together to provide service to the Community.  Today we learned all about the Vietnam Moving Wall coming to Livonia August 8-12. If you are interested in volunteering please  sign up!

Jim Davis, candidate City Council: A great day for the Wilson Barn car show in Livonia!!! Mayor Candidate for Council Jim Davis with Mayor Wright and Dave and Janice Lumley.

Greg Coppola, candidate City Council: Busy weekend out and about meeting citizens at the many activities over the last few days - LSO Robert Bennett Memorial Golf Outing, Motor City Irish Fest, Passport to Safety & Annual Barn Car Show. This is what makes Livonia such a great place to live - always something going on.

Musings readers are the best at contemplating and cogitating. The typewriter enjoys getting your letters and notes.
Nancy Marie Jamroz, S, Madonna University: Thank you for the nice coverage of Madonna/Felician Sisters welcome/heritage center groundbreaking!  Even though the rain was plentiful, so was the support of many good friends...moving forward in hope....

Jack Engebretson, John Pastor, Charlie MahoneyCharlie Mahoney: the LSO and the Livonia Community Foundation will be there -and the LSO will again provide Concert Vouchers and Season Tickets as door prizes - looking forward to this event.

Brandon McCullough:  I attended an event that was hosted by Livonia Public Schools outlining both the proposed operating Millage renewal and the proposed Sinking fund increase.

I will say the operating renewal is a no-brainer and should easily pass. On the other side, I am concerned with some responses to increasing the sinking fund  I have heard. The increase will equate to an average of $4/month to provide facilities improvements that include roof replacement, boiler replacement and parking lot improvements to name a few. The big chunk will add security and technology enhancements our schools desperately need!

As having a facilities and construction background, some of these building enhancements will provide huge sustainability upgrades that will not only save energy but provide a healthy learning environment for our children and teachers! Voting against these proposals is a vote against the future of our City.   Please join me and vote in favor of both proposals.

Happy Birthday Livonia !!!

Healthy Livonia continues to partner with. . .Livonia

While you enjoy Summer, some will be getting ready for Fall.

It's official.  Thanks to the sponsorship of the Livonia YMCA and in coordination with our Livonia Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the Community Financial  Credit Union, Alpha USA, Rotary AM Club and F&PA/Bob Hardies Year Three of Livonia's Good Old-fashioned Neighborhood Corn Roast is on the way toward another successful year.

And we will have the Livonia Civic Chorus along with the Livonia Youth Symphony on hand as well providing entertainment.

Year three.  This year all the families who moved into Livonia since November 1, 2018 will receive not one but two invitations. Save the date on August 15 and You are Invited on September 5.

This year every organization that will be participating--and we had 25 last year--will be included on the mailings.

And yes indeed. Corn on the cob once again will be served up for your enjoyment.

Mark your calendar. September 15 is just around the corner.  If your organization wants to participate simply click here.
