FridayMusings Proud to support the Good Old Fashioned Neighborhood Corn Roast Sunday September 15
A week in the life of one candidate. Retail politics at work in Livonia.
On Wednesday Musings explored a week in retail politics for one candidate Jim Davis who is making his first run for public office. Today I thought we should take a look at three other candidates and see what they are posting about their travels around town.

Maureen Miller Brosnan took in a couple of fun events this week at the recreation center pool dedication and the 5K Heathy Livonia Run/Walk.

"Had a great time at the opening of the renovated leisure pool at the Recreation
Center this evening! The new pool (especially the slide) is Harper McCullough-approved!

"Cheers to everyone who worked to host the Healthy Livonia 5K. Stevenson Pom and Cheer Squads, (pictured on the left with Brosnan,) were in charge of the spirit.

"Rotary made sure we stayed on course. Many physicians and St. Mary Mercy Hospital Team members showed us how it was done. And Sister Agnes was in charge of the weather. She did an amazing job!"

Eileen McDonnell volunteered at Blessings in a Backpack and then the ribbon cutting for the new recreation center pool.

" We love helping Lauren Peters . Blessings in a Backpack is a wonderful program and we are always happy to help. I'm glad that the Livonia Public Schools gave her space to use at Marshall. It makes the process much easier for her and the volunteers.

"Grand reopening of the Leisure Pool. Kids young and old are really having a fun time!

" Wow, what a busy day yesterday. Working 8 hours, ribbon cutting at the Kirksey Recreation Center and volunteering at Blessings in a Back Pack @ Marshall School.

"I'm so happy to support our community and I always will! I'm running to support everyone! This election is not for building my resume and moving on to the next level, its all about the city!"

Rob Donovic took in the speech hosted by Laura Toy at her campaign headquarters, of Linda Lee Tarver, president of Republican Women's Federation of Michigan. In 2016, Dr. Tarver was selected to serve as Co-Chair for the Trump for Michigan Campaign.

"Did you know that in 1920 women were finally allowed to vote in America? After the 19th amendment was passed, women could finally have a voice in the voting booth. While tragic and far too long, they had that voice. You have that voice and amazing right and you should use it! We all should. Thanks for the presentation, Linda Lee Tarver ."

Donovic is a reserve police officer in Centerline and he participated with friends in the Win for Warriors Patriot Ruck March in downtown Detroit Sunday, helping raise money for military and first responders in memory of the victims of 9/11.

On Sunday Donovic will join a number of candidates - Greg Coppola, Jim Davis, Brandon McCullough, Eileen McDonnell - at the Good Old Fashioned Corn Roast. He will start at 8:15 to load up the fresh picked corn at Westborn. Thank you all.

You gotta love retail politics. Especially o n the local level.
Two letters. Two thoughts. Thoughts from two of our neighbors on the current campaign.
FridayMusings is happy to run letters that relate to the campaign as dialogue and discussion enhance the quality of campaigns. The responsibility for the content of the letters remains however as the ownership of the writer.

Mike Testa: Thank you for your continued coverage of our Elections; you are filling a large void in local media coverage.  I read Scott Bahr's reply to your Monday edition.  Iappreciate his clarification, however, I question it.

To help promote the recent LPS Millage Proposals, I launched 'Vote YES for LPS' on Facebook.  Basically, I reached out to local organizations and politicians to seek their public endorsement of the Millages -- most gladly did and allowed me to share it to the Vote YES Page.  I contacted Scott to confirm his position on the Millages; I also shared the Vote YES Page with him and asked him to help raise awareness.  He replied that he supported the Millages but had concerns with the "increases".

I then asked him if he was willing to post on his Facebook Page that he supported the Millages.  I never heard back from him, nor did he Share or Post about the Vote YES Page as many others did.  In addition, none of his campaign material noted his support of the Millages.  This seems to be a classic case of playing both sides of the fence.  I'm also disappointed that a majority of the School Board Endorsed Scott in the Primary and continue to do so now.  To be clear, this is not about Scott - individual School Board Members have every right to Endorse the candidate(s) that they want to.  However, most of the Board did not publicly Endorse the Millages.

If they are willing to Endorse a Candidate, they should be willing to Endorse the Millages.  I greatly appreciate the few Board Members that did Endorse the Millages.  Strong Schools are needed for Strong Communities.  It is important that we have leaders that understand and are willing to promote and advocate for this.

Bill Craig: Three years ago Wayne County Executive Warren Evans proposed selling the Warren Valley Golf Course, part of Hines Park, for $1.8 million to a developer who intended to turn the site into a real estate project. Dearborn Heights Mayor Dan Paletko led a successful effort to purchase the golf course in order to save it. Mr. Evans efforts to fragment Hines Park have not ceased, currently he is in the midst of a quiet effort to sell several of the historic Ford mill sites along Hines Drive, including the nearly three-acre Wayne County Sheriffs' complex at Newburg Lake, to entrepreneurs who plan to restore these old buildings and operate them as businesses. However there is nothing to prevent purchasers from doing whatever they like with these sites once they take possession. We find the thought that a Hooters, a filling station or a Dollar store could pop up along Hines Drive chilling.

Wayne County Commissioner, Terri Marecki (Livonia), has been an enthusiastic supporter of Mr. Evans' efforts. Perhaps Musings could solicit mayoral candidates Laura Toy and Maureen Brosnan for their stand on Mr. Evans' efforts to dismantle Hines Park, since the Sheriffs' complex and Newburgh Lake are within Livonia.

Avett Ray Maness to perform in Livonia and only at Seedlings. Mark that calendar now.

VIRAL 7-y.o. Pianist Avett Maness Performs
Pianist Avett Maness Performs "Bohemian Rhapsody" - Queen Night - American Idol 2019
Avett Ray Maness, the 7-year-old piano prodigy who performed on American Idol, Good Morning America, the Today show and in GAP's back-to-school commercial, will be the special guest at Seedlings' Open House 4-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14!

Avett, who is blind, taught himself how to play piano. He will attend the open house with his mother,  Sara Moore, who wrote a children's book for and about him called  Cotton Candy Clouds.   Avett is the little rabbit in the story wearing round glasses. Moore wrote the book to describe clouds to Avett, who cannot see them. The book is available in braille from Seedlings.

Avett will perform at the open house, and Moore will sign copies of her book.

Once again the typewriter and bodyguard will greet you at the door and welcome you to the 35th Seedlings anniversary at this special open house. Guests are invited to enjoy birthday treats and tour Seedlings' facility to learn how the staff and volunteers make free and low-cost braille books for children with vision loss all over the world!
