Georgia Watch Honors Remaining
2020 Consumer Champions

In June and July, Georgia Watch presented its remaining 2020 Consumer Champion Awards to Christine Wiggins and Attorney John Salter for their work to protect and empower consumers in Georgia.

Christine Wiggins, Deputy Director for the Chronic Disease Prevention Section at the Georgia Department of Public Health, was presented with our "Champion for Health Equity" award, for her tireless effort to promote healthcare access and health equity by uplifting Community Health Workers around the state.

Attorney John Salter, Barnes Law Group, was presented with our "Champion for Consumer Energy" award, for his dogged pursuit of fairness while representing us pro bono to contest the decision of the Georgia Public Service Commission approving the continuation of the costly Plant Vogtle nuclear expansion.
Liz Coyle to testify before U.S. Senate
This pandemic recovery economy presents many opportunities for bad actors to take advantage of hardworking families in Georgia and across the country. For example, direct financial benefits to families, such as the stimulus checks and child tax credit payments, create avenues for all sorts of fraud and scams aimed at obtaining those funds.

Senators Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) have invited Georgia Watch executive director Liz Coyle to testify on this issue. Liz plans to share what the organization has seen on the ground in Georgia, as well as recommendations to policymakers to protect consumers during the recovery. Details are below:
