Safety! Safety! Safety!
It’s that time of year when temperatures, frost and water combine to produce extremely rough roads. It is also the time of year when load securement is more important than ever, and driver responsibility must be given the utmost attention when hauling wood or other products.
Picture one above, was taken January 11th and the truck/pup was lucky enough to make it to a receiving mill without incidence involving other motorists.
Pictures two, three, and four below, were taken on a major highway near the GLTPA headquarters. There is no excuse for wood to be laying on the road waiting to be pushed off by a plow truck.
CHECK YOUR LOAD OFTEN especially when hauling crossways.
The consequences of losing wood to be struck by another vehicle are life changing. If more information is needed on how it works, we’ll be happy to put you touch with people who sat in court trials where the driver was charged with negligence and manslaughter. They will be happy to share their experience. The emotional and financial cost is overwhelming and preventable.
A little extra time for load securement by far outweighs the consequences.
