Volunteers Needed for Grand Dominion Car Show

Did YOU Know? Over the years, the Grand Dominion Car Show Club has raised tens of thousands of dollars for the Fremont Food Pantry, feeding people in need and providing disadvantaged students with school supplies.

Did YOU Know? In 2024 alone, the Car Show Club donated $4,000 in cash, plus groceries, and supplies to this worthy cause, $1,500 to the Northern Illinois Food Bank and $1,500 to the Lake County Honor Flight.

This year, through the help of more than 50 volunteers, we were able to host 180+ car owners – but are in dire need of volunteers to step in and assume the following critical leadership roles - training will be provided!

  • Manage registration intake - learn automated registration program; process forms
  • Secure food/refreshment vendors – contact local vendors for day of show. (ie: Hitz – pizza & hot dogs; ice cream vendor.
  • Secure trophies and dash plaques – assume ordering of these essential items.
  • Order T-shirts – coordinate ordering of T-shirts for volunteers.
  • Manage treasury – track donations and expenditures.
  • Facilitate hospitality room – Arrange for coffee, donuts, bagels, etc. for car owners.
  • Volunteer coordinator – intake of an average of 50 volunteers and slot them where needed.
  • Create/manage raffle baskets – leadership is secured but many volunteers needed to solicit basket items and assist in assembling baskets. Baskets raised nearly $3000 in 2024 alone!

John Vaughn (50/50 raffle), Chris Johnson (basket raffle) and Steve Weinberg (overall event management) will be returning in 2025 and are eager to welcome YOU to the leadership team! Leadership positions require attending 4 - 6 planning meetings from February through July and handling your specific responsibilities.

Become a part of a team that makes a measurable impact in your community, put your skills to important use and join a welcoming, fun group of dedicated volunteers! Please contact Steve Weinberg at 847-830-3340 if you would like more information about any of the listed leadership positions.

Lake Forest Civic Orchestra

The Lake Forest Civic Orchestra celebrates its 36th season of high quality, community led performing arts on Chicago’s North Shore. Our theme for the season is “Epics, Odes, and Sagas” and programming on each concert will demonstrate how stories are told musically. The biggest story they'll share is Beethoven’s 9th symphony. This concert, with chorusmaster John Hughes and voices of Chicago Master Singers, Lux Cantorum Chicago, and community members, will be presented on January 19, 2025 at the James Lumber Performing Arts Center in Grayslake, Illinois - a venue large enough to perform this epic tale.

Mundelein's 100 Year Old Fire Truck

In 1925 -100 years ago, Mundelein received their very first fire truck

(1925 Stoughton). This fire truck was a gift from Cardinal Mundelein.

The Village of Mundelein still has this very same fire truck. This 100 year old Stoughton is still running and working just like it did 100 years ago! There are not many communities in Illinois that can say that they have their very first fire truck that can still run!

Be on the lookout this year for celebrations around Mundelein of this 100th anniversary for historic Old Number One!
