Our LTAP staff members presented a poster at the Annual Transportation Research Board (TRB) Meeting held last January 13-17, 2019 in Washington D.C. Titled as "Not Just Data! We Want Information We Can Use, and We Need It Now!", the poster presented how Louisiana took a data-driven focused approach in local road safety planning and implementation efforts.

Louisiana’s local road safety planning process begins with crash data analysis and parish profile development. It significantly involves stakeholder participation and input (from local public agencies and regional safety coalitions) facilitated through crash data workshops and meetings. During the plan development itself, projects are identified and prioritized using an assessment tool and countermeasure selection matrix. The process then wraps up with project evaluation and re-assessment of data. Download the poster here.

After 26 years of service, Mr. Bob Breaux retired from his position as LTAP's Administrative Coordinator effective January 2, 2019. Bob's dedication in serving LTAP's business and administrative functions was unparalleled. Bob was honored at his retirement party organized by his colleagues at Louisiana Transportation Research Center (LTRC). LTAP is a division within the LTRC.

Calling all local public agencies and innovators out there! Have you come up with an innovative idea for making your transportation workplace safer or more efficient? Perhaps, a new gadget, equipment or tool to do your job better? If so, then submit an entry to the Build a Better Mousetrap (BABM) National Competition. 

Build a Better Mousetrap is a nationwide competition initiated by Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and implemented through the Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) Centers across the nation. In Louisiana, the LTAP Center facilitates the selection process. Deadline of entries is on March 30, 2019. Click here to fill out an electronic submission form.

Although project applications for the Local Road Safety Program (LRSP) are accepted year-round, the Louisiana LTAP Center is encouraging parishes and municipalities to consider submitting their projects proposals in time for the quarterly cutoff dates. For this quarter, applications should be turned in by March 31, 2019 to be given priority for project selection. The next cutoff dates are June 30, September 30 and December 31, 2019. Read more.
