Lagniappe of Learning Plus Fun in the Big Easy
With this year's theme, "LTAP Lagniappe - A Little Something Extra", the four-day NLTAPA Conference piloted the "Partnership Carousel" and a scavenger hunt using GooseChase mobile app which added to the element of fun throughout the learning experience.

From August 21 to September 20, Louisiana LTAP team will be conducting a series of one-day classes on the basics of intersection safety, operations and accessibility
that will help local agency personnel manage their intersections
using best practice resources from FHWA, ITE, and other authorities.
Louisiana LTAP Center partners with FHWA, GOHSEP, DOTD, LMA and FEMA
to conduct this training that aims to provide local agencies with tools and resources
on how to conduct damage assessment and apply for emergency disaster funding
The Louisiana Parish Engineers and Supervisors Association (LPESA) will hold their annual conference at the Margaritaville Resort Casino in Bossier City. Registration fees are $50 for LPESA members, $75 for associate members, and $75 for non-members.

Governor Edwards pledges support for Louisiana's traffic safety vision of zero deaths
This summer, Governor John Bel Edwards joined Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) Secretary Shawn Wilson, Louisiana State Police (LSP) Colonel Kevin Reeves and Louisiana Highway Safety Commission (LHSC) Executive Director Lisa Freeman in signing a letter supporting the statewide Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) designed to help reduce traffic deaths and injuries. LA LTAP Center exhibits at LMA Convention
Louisiana LTAP Center's staff members hit the Southwest part of the state to exhibit at the annual Louisiana Municipal Association (LMA) Convention in Lake Charles Civic Center on July 31 to August 2. LTAP partners with the municipal officials and administrators to promote local road safety, provide training, and encourage project delivery innovations.

New report tackles the transition to automated vehicles on roads that cars can read
Serious crashes on inter-urban roads may be slashed by a quarter over the next 30-40 years with the introduction of automated vehicles. However, the journey may be far from easy, with a mixed fleet transition and vital need for roads that cars can read, according to a EuroRAP report released today. Read more.

Law enforcement agencies invited to join "Operation Clear Track" promoting rail safety in September
As part of the upcoming Rail Safety Week observance on Sept. 23-29, 2018, Operation Lifesaver, Inc. and Amtrak, along with other rail safety partners, are inviting all law enforcement agencies to join forces in conducting "Operation Clear Track on September 25.This national law enforcement initiative was started to help reduce grade crossing and trespassing incidents along railroad tracks throughout the country. The goal is to recruit 300 police and/or sheriff's departments. Sign up here.
