LTAP attends innovation showcase
The Louisiana LTAP Center staff recently attended the "Innovation Showcase on the Lawn" held by the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) in front of the headquarters building in Baton Rouge. N
early 40 booths were featured displaying some of the innovative projects that state DOTD employees from across Louisiana have developed to help DOTD complete its tasks as infrastructure needs grow and resources continue to shrink. Because of their innovations, our workforce has the opportunity to work safer, faster, and more affordably. Read more.

Local governments encouraged to participate in Statewide Watershed Initiative
LTAP encourages local communities to be proactively engaged in the statewide Watershed Initiative, which is the Governor's long-term strategic approach to managing future flood risks. It is the goal of this initiative to empower local jurisdictions and communities to implement regional, long-term solutions that follow watershed boundaries and can cross local political boundaries. November 14 in Hammond and November 15 in Baton Rouge.

LTAP is conducting a series of one-day classes on "Roads Scholar #2: Maintenance of Asphalt Roads". This training
is designed to help road crew members implement procedures for more effective maintenance of those roads that will extend their service life without the need for constant repetition. Register here.

TAILGATE TALKS
NLTAPA shares tips how local public agencies can carry out tailgate talks with road personnel
The Louisiana LTAP, in partnership with Connecticut LTAP Center and the National Local Technical Assistance Program Association (NLTAPA), would like to encourage road superintendents, public works supervisors and road managers to consider embarking on a "Tailgate Talk" initiative in their respective workplaces.
You can carry out tailgate safety talks however you find best, but some guidelines to consider include: (1)
Hold talks on a regular basis - weekly or monthly; (2) Keep them short; (3) Time them right so they don't interfere with the work; (4) Include props when you can; and more. Click here for ideas on Tailgate Topics as well as General Tailgate Instructions to Supervisors.

ROAD SAFETY
LTAP calls for project applications to the Local Road Safety Program, 4th Qua
rter of 2018
LTAP calls on local public agencies to submit project applications for road safety improvements to be funded through the Local Road Safety Program (LRSP). Although submissions are accepted year-round, project applications submitted by December 31, 2018 shall be given priority for project selection. Eligible projects include curve delineations, rumble strips, high friction surface treatments, pavement markings and other
proven safety countermeasures.

Panel nominations now open for research on impacts of connected vehicles and automated vehicles
The Transportation Research Board's (TRB) National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) is seeking panel nominations for tasks associated with research on the Impacts of Connected Vehicles and Automated Vehicles on State and Local Transportation Agencies. Deadline is November 20.
