Imagework : The Complete Guide to Working with Transformational Imagery Dina Glouberman
Once again I am indebted to Paradigm Explorer, the Journal of the Scientific and Medical Network, for drawing my attention to the release of
a highly relevant new publication.
I have written previously of the importance of the impact of 'Images' on consciousness, and this book takes the matter further. As Graham Mummery writes in P.E.139, Dina Glouberman prefers the term ImageWork to visualisation, because her take on the matter involves working with images from the psyche.
Images, Visualisation, etc, are important in remote healing and creating our future reality.
"The purpose of ImageWork is not to control and interpret the images. It is about creating an alchemical flask so an imaginer can work with them in safety and bring back whatever they have learned". Graham Mummery.
I am drawn to Dina's notion of Imagework, as it is linked in my mind the question of ‘what is it that I want to create/be/do' etc.
I am enormously impressed by her work, for it is future orientated, and by having a clear aim, we are more likely to achieve what it is we want to create or do.
This is linked with notion of 'Images'. A picture or an image of the desired future. Yet this is, for me, more of an aspiration than a working tool. It should be easier.
Why I am so drawn to this line of work. It makes things appear simple. But if it is simple, why is my path not clear ?
I was delighted when I saw that Dina’s book had appeared, but things went downhill when I tried to start writing this article.
The desire for a simple and effective way forward has remained with me. Combine that with a left of centre orientation and you have a rich brew. But humanist psychology continues to develop.
I remain convinced of the value of her work, and indeed once went to Skyros on one of her holidays, which was amazing, and challenging.
When I obtained a copy of Imagework, I read it with enthusiasm, but initially its content remained elusive.
I therefore searched for a way of making that content relevant to the dowser-in-the-street. One way of doing that is to examine the Image that we come up with, and talk about that, rather than the person who has imagined it. The Imaginer.
In that I wished to make the article relevant to dowsing, one way is to talk about something everyone shares, which is this Newsletter itself, sent to all.
Everyone receives the same newsletter, though views on it may vary wildly. It is at least in existence, and - as with the BSD - there will be a variety of Images concerning it in people's minds.
The advantage of the 'Newsletter' over the 'BSD', is that the Newsletter is ‘out there’ and available to all, whereas the image of the BSD may be clearer to some than to others, depending on their experience and degree of participation.
With the Newsletter, in terms of Dina's book, the question is, what is the nature of the “Image” of the Newsletter ?
I therefore began to consider the nature of the 'Image of the Newsletter', and was initially tempted by the sight of a grand galleon sailing the seven seas, or the heroic representation of the Spitfire, coming to Britain’s defence in its darkest hour.
Leaving aside these personal thoughts, what Images come to your own mind when considering the Newsletter ?
These things are important, for where attention goes action will follow (or not), and there are many things competing for our attention.
To be continued. Imagework is reference ISBN 978-1-915220-02-8 £21.
