Local Food Guide
Planning is underway for the 2018 edition of the St. Lawrence County  Local Food Guide. Here's what you need to know:

Farm listings  range from no cost to $25. 

Advertisements  range from $100 to $500, with 10,000 copies distributed around St. Lawrence County.

Artwork to be considered for our Cover Art Contest may include photography or any two-dimensional piece that can be re-printed. Artwork should illustrate the variety of local food available in the region. To enter, send a high resolution file to  office@gardenshare.org  by March 31, 2018. Upton Sinclair's The Jungle
Book Discussion March 8
This spring, GardenShare and the Potsdam Public Library bring you The Serious Side of Food, a new  Reading and Discussion program funded by Humanities New York. 

The group will meet f rom 7-8 PM t he second Thursday of each month from March to June. GardenShare's own AmeriCorps VISTA, Maggie Smith, will facilitate discussions. 

This month's selection is Upton Sinclair's acclaimed novel,  The Jungle, a  revolutionary exposé on the meat-packing industry in industrial turn-of-the-20th-century Chicago. Discussion on this novel will take place on March 8. Be sure to also mark your  calendars for  April 12, May 10, and June 14 for future meeting dates. 

No need to register, just get a copy of The Jungle (there are plenty of copies at the PPL circulation desk) and meet us at the library at 7 PM on March 8. You can sign up here  for Potsdam Public Library emails to stay in the loop about their other programs. 
Farm Credit Northeast AgEnhancement Grant
GardenShare Receives Grant from Farm Credit Northeast
GardenShare recently received a $1000 grant from Farm Credit Northeast AgEnhancement to support the 2018 Local Food Guide.
GardenShare Associate Director Carlene Doane and board members Anneke Larrance and Sandy Stauffer accepted the check from with Farm Credit representative Christine Pointer (second from left).

News in Brief

Maple Weekends are coming up on March 17-18 and 24-25. During these fun-filled weekends, many local sugar houses will be open to the public with tours, samples, and other activities. This is a fun opportunity to learn firsthand about a local industry.  

New this summer, GardenShare will be offering free lunch to kids at Canton's Taylor Park! We are working with the Village Recreation Department to offer healthy, delicious lunches as part of the Adventures in Learning recreation program. More to come, so stay tuned!
