Out in the Field!
It's hot outside to be sure, but that doesn't mean farmers are slowing down. And neither are Local Food Safety Collaborative's partner organizations! They are hard at work, bringing food safety education and training straight to the farm. Here's a few of our favorite moments from food safety field days and farm walks held across the country this summer...
Congratulations to John Bouma and family, the winners of the hand-wash station provided by Iowa State University Extension at a FSMA Field Day hosted by Iowa Farmers Union in Ottumwa, Iowa on July 16!

Kentucky Horticulture Council hosted an Ag Water Field Day in Winchester, Kentucky where growers rode out to kale production fields for a sampling demonstration, discussion of sample results, management techniques and farm water quality plans.  In a post-workshop survey, 100% of participants indicated they learned new information about water quality and produce safety!
Farmers learned about regenerative farming and ranching practices, marketing strategies, food safety protocols/plans and on-farm carbon research, during an afternoon farm walk in Thorp, Washington with Tilth Alliance and WSU Food Systems Program!

In this Blog Post, our friend and food safety expert, Connie Fisk, PhD., the Northwest Regional Extension Agent for Produce Safety Alliance (PSA), shares her journey across Washington State with National Young Farmers Coalition as a part of a series of food safety workshops and trainings.

Follow along with her as she takes you through 6 action-packed days of farm tours, delicious meals, Washington sites, and PSA grower trainings. Her highlights include many exciting pictures of farms and food.

The LFSC partner organizations featured in Connie's trip are the National Young Farmers Coalition and Tilth Alliance. The educational activities mentioned in this blog were partially funded by LFSC. Check out the compelling work our partners are doing out West!
