LAFAYETTE, La. -- Community Foundation of Acadiana (CFA) will honor Phil and Renée Haney at its sixth annual Leaders in Philanthropy Awards Luncheon on Nov. 11, 2016 at the Cajundome Convention Center in Lafayette, La. Doors open at 11 a.m. and the program is from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. The Haneys have been selected to receive the 2016 Leaders in Philanthropy Award for their leadership, commitment and dedication to improving Iberia Parish.
As a kindergarten teacher, Renée witnessed children of struggling families and wanted to help improve their lives. It was her passion that led Phil to create the Prosecutor's Early Intervention Program (PEIP). This program's success has led to recognition and partnership with the McArthur Foundation and the Models for Change initiative and has been a catalyst for change within Louisiana's juvenile system.
For the last 15 years, they have been actively involved in the Iberia Boys and Girls Club and are known for their efforts with its annual Brudley's Wild Game Cook Off.
In 2003, they created the Phil Haney Community Projects nonprofit organization to work within the school system to provide services for at risk children and their families. In 2008, Phil and Renée partnered with Community Foundation of Acadiana to establish the Phil Haney Community Fund to help with emergency needs and to create scholarships for children in Iberia, St. Martin and St. Mary parishes.
Phil and Renée are among 13 individuals who will be recognized for making a positive impact in their communities through philanthropy:
* Iberia Parish - Phil & Renée Haney * Acadia Parish - Peggy & John Daniel Gielen, III * Evangeline Parish - Anita M. Fontenot * Lafayette Parish - James Devin & Ruth Moncus * St. Landry Parish - Sue Soileau Brignac * St. Martin Parish - Roy & Catherine Poché * St. Mary Parish - Dr. Alan M. Hoberman & Dr. Mildred S. Christian (1942-2009) * Vermilion Parish - N. R. Broussard
In addition to the above award recipients, CFA will present corporate awards to Acadian Companies and Chevron - Gulf of Mexico Business Unit for their outstanding philanthropy in Acadiana.
