Volunteer Opportunities at the Fremont Township Community Garden

The Fremont Township Community Garden provides fresh, healthy organic produce to low-income seniors and neighbors in need.

If you’re interested in volunteering, you can reach out directly to Char at 847-414-3691. We rely on many volunteers to keep things running smoothly—from planting and weeding to harvesting. Every extra set of hands helps more neighbors in need get access to healthy food. Corporate and local and community groups are also welcome.

Forest Preserve Buys Property in Fremont Township

At their March 11 meeting, the Forest Preserve Board approved the purchase of about 13.4 acres in Fremont Township to expand Lakewood Forest Preserve in Wauconda. The $3,994,100 acquisition is known as the Dayspring Bible College & Seminary.

The site, which has been of interest to the Forest Preserves for more than 20 years, is surrounded by existing preserve land and is located on Fairfield Road about a quarter mile north of Route 176, adjacent to the Lakewood Off-Leash Dog Area.

The property currently operates as a seminary and includes dormitories, apartments and a gymnasium. The Forest Preserve will evaluate how the buildings could support operational needs in the future.
