Career Speaker Week Returns For Its 5th Year!

Lowell High School and Project LEARN teamed up again for Lowell High’s 5th Annual Career Speaker Week. During the week of March 4th, more than 90 speakers volunteered to share their career journeys, to nearly 80 classes - impacting over 1,800 students.

Local professionals from a wide range of industries all brought their own unique perspectives, inspiring the next generation of Lowell students by sharing personal anecdotes, challenges faced, and the journey that led them to their current positions. Students engaged in interactive discussions with the speakers in their class, where they could ask questions and seek personalized advice.

Events like these play a crucial role in promoting a culture of innovation and exploration by supporting Lowell students as they prepare to enter the workforce, and gain more knowledge on potential future pathways.

Meet Elizabeth, Project LEARN's Newest LHS Intern!

Meet Elizabeth Zhan - a senior at Lowell High School and our newest Project LEARN intern! She is an active member of Students Making Change, Early College Lowell, Commencement 2 Careers, and the Latin Lyceum program. She is extremely passionate about the Lowell community, especially education, which is rooted in her aspirations for her younger brother and the hope that he has access to a variety of opportunities.

Now in her last semester at Lowell High, Elizabeth remembers her sophomore year fondly, recalling the time spent in her library after school with others in the Lyceum program. Looking forward, Elizabeth is planning to go to college with interests in majoring either in Chemical Engineering or Sociology.

During February vacation, Elizabeth was part of a group of LHS students who traveled to Japan and next, she hopes to travel to Italy. She also enjoys reading, playing video games, and watching Formula 1 racing. We are so excited to have Elizabeth join us during her last semester of high school and can’t wait to see where she goes next!

Upcoming Programs & Initiatives

Springtime Student Art Projects

Calling all student poets! Through a partnership between Lowell Public Schools and Project LEARN, students in grades K-12 have the opportunity to submit an original poem which will become a permanent part of Lowell's art scene. You can find the submission portal here.

Then later this spring, a rock garden will be constructed in the near future made of rocks painted by our LPS students.

Calling all Businesses!

Commencement 2 Careers is a 6-week summer internship program that provides real-world, project-based work experience to Lowell High School students & recent grads. If you know of any businesses looking to diversify their workforce while giving back to the community, reach out to Sothy Sok (c/o '00) to learn more.

IDEA Camp Enrollment is Open

IDEA Camp is back this summer with exciting, hands-on STEM workshops for students in grades 5-12. During the in-person workshops hosted on the UMass Lowell campus, students will have a week full of fun, teamwork, and essential skill development.

The Lowell High Alumni Association is a collaboration between Project LEARN and the Lowell Public School district. The mission of the Alumni Association is to help alumni connect with each other, to engage with the school, community and to inspire future generations of Lowell High students through mentoring, advising and tutoring.
