ADK Cub Hike-O-Ree

Adirondack Foothills District is holding its Cub Hike-O-Ree on October 1st, 2022

at the Herkimer County Community College award-winning Nature Trail, which is behind the stadium on campus.

Time is currently 9-12 with starting times at 15-minute intervals. This is an ADK activity open to all Packs and Cubs from the entire Council.

After time on the trail, Cubs and their families are invited to the HCCC Fall Fest which will run to 4 PM and include music, balloon sculptures, a car show, horse-drawn wagon rides, and many other family activities, all free.

Prospective new members who want to “try on” Cub Scouting will be guests of the ADK District. Cubs may attend as members of a pack, den, or family. There is a $10 fee for Scouts for supplies and program.

This event is designed to be an outdoor event “in the box” for both new and experienced leaders to bring their Cubs to an outdoor activity without extensive planning. As for new members, this is scheduled just days after local Join Scouting Nights and will be their first Cub Activity for many. There is no pre-registration, just come, sign in, pay the event fee, and enjoy.

LEATHERSTOCKING COUNCIL

WELCOMES NEW ASSISTANT SCOUT EXECUTIVE

We are pleased to announce Abby Lukach has been hired as its Assistant Scout Executive. She was previously with Longhouse Council, BSA based in Syracuse, NY where she served as Development Director.

“We are very excited Abby has joined our leadership team,” said Matthew Dziedzic, Leatherstocking Council board president. “She has achieved an impressive level of success while working with volunteers and our local youth programs will benefit greatly from her skill set and experience.”

Lukach has had a passion for Scouting since her days as a Venture Scout in the Longhouse Council where she earned the Silver Award in 2009. In 2012 she earned a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Recreation, Adventure Travel, and Ecotourism at Paul Smiths College then in 2014 a master’s in management of Leisure Services at SUNY Cortland. She then began her career with the Boy Scout of America in January of 2015 with Longhouse Council as a District Executive. In 2018 she was promoted to Senior District Executive and then Development Director. As a Development Director, she managed all the Council's fundraising initiatives including the well-known SCOUTPOWER event.

As Assistant Scout Executive Lukach will work in tandem with the Scout Executive, Ray Eschenbach. She will give leadership to field operations to support and grow the Scouting movement in the Leatherstocking Council.

2023 National Jamboree

Are you interested in participating in Scouting’s greatest adventure?!? The 2023 National Jamboree at Summit Bechel Reserve in West Virginia is fast approaching and we are looking to build a Leatherstocking Council contingent.

The Jamboree will be happening from July 19-28,2023. The cost will be approximately $2200, which includes transportation, food, tents, and national registration fees. To secure the national early bird fee, you MUST register at this site: jamboree.scouting.org by October 31, 2022 after which the National Registration fee will increase from $1285 to $1500, and the council fee will reflect that. Once you have registered on the National site, please see the payment schedule on the Council website. We hope you can move “FORWARD” with us at the Jamboree.
