2023 National Jamboree

Are you interested in participating in Scouting’s greatest adventure?!? The 2023 National Jamboree at Summit Bechel Reserve in West Virginia is fast approaching and we are looking to build a Leatherstocking Council contingent.

The Jamboree will be happening from July 19-28,2023. The cost will be approximately $2200, which includes transportation, food, tents, and national registration fees. To secure the national early bird fee, you MUST register at this site: jamboree.scouting.org by October 31, 2022 after which the National Registration fee will increase from $1285 to $1500, and the council fee will reflect that. Once you have registered on the National site, please see the payment schedule on the Council website. We hope you can move “FORWARD” with us at the Jamboree.

SCOUTS' TIPS

How to make sure your Youth Protection Training is current, print your certificate

Completing Youth Protection Training, the BSA's three-module course covering the safety and well-being of our youth, isn't merely a good idea. It's a requirement. As a registered BSA volunteer, you must take the full 72-minute Youth Protection Training, hereafter known as YPT. Leatherstocking Council Requires this annually. November is a great time to complete the training so you are ready for recharter.

If you need help completing the training please reach out to your unit leaders.

SAFETY MOMENTS

Frostbite

Serious injuries can occur when it’s cold and you spend time working, playing, or sleeping outside, particularly if you are wet or your clothes are wet or too tight. Every Scout Deserves a Trained Leader

If you had a magic wand, would you use it to make the Scouting program better and more fun for youth so they stayed in Scouting longer, so it had a larger impact on their lives? What if the same magic wand made leadership roles easier, more rewarding, and led to better retention among adult leaders? Would using that magic wand be a top priority?

Well, such a magic wand does exist—in the form of the learning programs for leaders in the Boy Scouts of America.

Common sense tells us that training is important, and research shows the importance of trained leaders. A trained leader is knowledgeable and more confident in the role being performed. Trained leaders exhibit a knowledge and confidence that is picked up by people around them.

Trained leaders impact the quality of programs, leader tenure, youth tenure, safety, and a whole lot more. A trained leader is better prepared to make the Scouting program all it can be!

These pages contain many of the “magic wands” and resources. Scout them out!
