BRAED Board Highlights

1) New member profiles on website will be uploaded to the website by Oct. 31. The format is a blend of a online page with heavy

reliance on links and a printable PDF document.

2) With the approval of its ongoing project partners, BRAED is negotiating a partnership agreement with

the City of Camrose to leverage BRAED’s Value-added Agriculture Project with a complementary

research project with the City.

This will broaden the focus of all components of the projects and double

the anticipated outcomes.

For two Wainwright residents, dreams of owning their own businesses became a reality thanks to REACH (Rural Enterprise Assistance and Coaching Hostel) and the MD of Wainwright.

Congrats to Lenard Nash, who opened his own autobody shop - Wainwright Autobody Ltd. and to Corrine Miller, who started Wainwright Senior Concierge Services.

Welcome to BRAED's fall KNOTice update.

The Board and Executive of this organization are excited about our initiatives and direction. With a focussed agenda and increased outreach, we are looking forward to a very rewarding year for our region.

Watch this fall for a regional business event for retailers that offer tools and strategies for maximizing return on the biggest consumer season of the year.

And watch for BRAED's regional familiarization tour with the Plant Protein Alliance of Alberta. We are building our agriculture industry's profile and influence with opinion leaders provincially and nationally, as we develop international investment attraction strategies. And as you can see in this ENews, we rolled out BRAED's new logo, along with redeveloped profiles for every BRAED community.

Multiple community transition efforts move forward

The Battle River Economic Opportunities Committee (BREOC) has been awarded $1.75 million through the Alberta Government’s Coal Communities Transition Fund (CCTF).

This funding is the catalyst needed for implementing transition efforts within the Town of Castor, Town of Coronation, County of Paintearth #18, Flagstaff County, Village of Forestburg, Halkirk and the Village of Heisler.

CEDC Tax Credit deadline looming

Community Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) encourages investment in businesses that are supporting social and/or rural economic development initiatives.

The CEDC credit offers a 30% tax credit to eligible investors registered in Alberta and is handled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The final session for Entrepreneurship 101 is taking place Oct. 10 at the Peace Memorial Multiplex.

This session will be provide an overview of the financial basics one should consider when thinking about starting a business.

Session runs from 6 to 8pm and is facilitated by StartUP Lloydminster. Cost is $10.
