Coroner’s report on extreme heat
and human mortality
The BC Coroners Service has released a report on extreme heat and human mortality as a result of the 2021 heat dome. Local governments are encouraged to review the report and consider how to support wellness checks in their communities.
Forest Enhancement Society seeks local government Director
UBCM, in partnership with the Forest Enhancement Society of BC (FESBC), is looking for a local elected official to be the voice of communities on its Board of Directors. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in using forestry to achieve social objectives such as climate action, protecting communities from wildfire, forest recreation, wildlife habitat, Indigenous reconciliation, etc.
New funding for flood mitigation
The provincial and federal governments, through the Adaptation, Resilience and Disaster Mitigation (ARDM) program, have committed up to $81.8 million towards community flood mitigation infrastructure projects. Interested local governments and First Nations must apply to the Province by October 7, 2022.
July 29th deadline for UBCM Executive nominations
A reminder to all UBCM member elected officials: Friday, July 29, 2022, is the deadline to respond to the Call for Nominations to serve on the 2022-2023 UBCM Executive.
