December 21, 2023

Dear Sarah,

It’s difficult to believe that we have just one week left in 2023! Before the year ends, there are no doubt plenty of items on our to do lists. If mandatory trainings for your Village work are still in need of attention, please consider this as a reminder that it is important all staff complete these by the end of the year. All staff with incomplete trainings have received notification from Paylocity so it is easy to click the link in your email and complete the tasks. Thanks for your cooperation!

I’m very pleased to share that our work helping children continues to inspire others to join the effort, especially during the holiday season. One fourth grade student in West Hartford called our offices recently and asked what she could do to help children in our care who cannot be with their families next week and you won’t believe what happened! We told her about our Art Angels program, which allows members of the public to decorate a holiday card, write an inspirational message, and send it to a child living at Eagle House…and she got her entire class to participate!

When the news media heard about what was happening, what started out as a singular act of kindness, became a big deal! Check out the photos from Bugbee Elementary School yesterday. You can also click here to see some of the TV coverage or click here to read about it on We-ha.com. I’m grateful to our Medical Director, Dr. Laine Taylor, for representing The Village in front of the TV cameras, and of course fourth grader Sydney Robinson for reminding us what the holidays are all about.

Third grade students in Avon at Roaring Brook Elementary School also participated in the Art Angels program, and their messages (some of which are seen below) will be shared with children at Eagle House over the next few weeks. It’s so encouraging to see young people stepping up to make a difference in this way.

Finally, check out this image from Church Street—as multiple departments took time to make gingerbread houses and connect with co-workers. This is a great example of the comradery that exists across all Village sites and programs. Thanks to Chad Williams for submitting the photo and giving a shout-out to his colleagues!

Have a great holiday—and no matter what you celebrate—I hope you enjoy with health and happiness.

Sincerely,

Galo
