THE CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND

 

 

Discover the authentic charm of a Victorian Seaport with its maritime heritage and a touch of urban chic. World-class restaurants, boutique shopping, galleries and stunning scenery await. Port Townsend is a community of just over 9,100 and is located at the northeast tip of the Olympic Peninsula. The city is noted for its vast collection of Victorian homes and historical buildings as well as a maritime center for independent boat builders and related industries. Port Townsend is host to several annual cultural events such as the Kinetic Skulpture Race, the annual blues and jazz festival, and the Port Townsend Film Festival (PTFF). 

 

This year the PTTF takes place on September 21- 23, 2012. Port Townsend will become the gathering place for independent filmmakers and film lovers from across the nation and around the world. For three days, the art of cinema is presented in five indoor venues and one outdoor venue, along with many special events that highlight the craft of filmmaking featuring composers, producers, directors and actors. Port Townsend has moderate temperatures. It is in the rainshadow of the Olympic Mountains and does not receive as much rain as Seattle.  The city offers gorgeous summer and early fall days.

July - High 71.4 F, Low 51.6 F

January Rainfall - 2.21 inches

July Rainfall - 0.75 inches

Port Townsend is a city of authentic historic buildings with most built in the 1890s. There are two National Historic Landmark Districts including Fort Worden State Park and the downtown/uptown areas, including historic commercial buildings in the downtown core and many stunning Victorian homes in the uptown. The City Hall, Post Office/Customs House and Jefferson County Courthouse are historic buildings still in use by their respective governments. Port Townsend Bay and Admiralty Inlet waters surround the city. The region boasts magnificent views of Mt. Baker, Mt. Rainier, the Cascade and Olympic Mountain ranges.
