Permission Form
We need all of our Legendary Lancer parents to visit parentaccess.ocps.net to complete the Parent Technology Media and Information Consent Form this week.

The Parent Technology Media and Information Consent Form must be completed electronically by all parents/guardians annually in all schools. Each form provides parents and legal guardians with the right to make important decisions involving how your student can use available technology resources, how the district uses available media of your student, and what personal identifiable information is released about your student.

Parents, please note that without your consent on these forms your student cannot be featured in our school yearbook and or weekly advertisements of school events and accolades. Therefore, parents we are asking that you please access the Progressbook home page at https://parentaccess.ocps.net to complete these short forms. Thank you for your attention.

College Day Reminder
College Day is every Friday and students receive special incentives for dressing in college attire!

Open House
Please save the September 25th date as that is our 2017 Open House and we are looking for a strong turnout from our school community this year.

Enjoy your Labor Day holiday. I look forward to seeing everyone back on campus Tuesday, September 5th.

Vital Signs

Club Rush '17

Last week we held our Club Rush. Representatives of each club and sponsors were available to discuss the club with students (below). We encourage all of our Lancers to get involved in an extracurricular activity whether it be a club or a sport this school year. For more information, please contact [email protected]

After School Zone

We are requesting that all parents register their child for the Boys & Girls Club After School Zone. Whether they plan to attend or not, it is a  free program that offers numerous enrichment programs including homework help, mentoring program, guitar club, sports leagues, and much, much more. If your child miss the bus, has to stay after school for any reason, or you are running late to pick them up, they will have a safe place to be with our faculty.

Media Center News

Our students are busy checking-out books, using computers for Edmodo, and taking AR tests. Virtual Library Cards are also available through Launchpad! To access this feature, students click on the Library Research Tools icon. Lancers will also receive a  tutorial for this exciting new feature through Language Arts classes.

Keep on reading!

Monday's Motivational Moment!

Hidden Talents

Most would think of him as a typical nine-year-old with no extraordinary talents and a little on the quiet side. Born in Saginaw, Michigan and transplanted to Detroit, he had some adjustments to make with his new classmates. It helped that he had a very special teacher, Mrs. Beneduci. She recognized something special in the young man from Saginaw. He was bright and not afraid to answer questions.  He was a great listener and she discovered he had a very special talent, his sense of hearing!  One particular incident brought this fact to light.

It was during a history lesson that the remarkable talent was highlighted. While asking the class various questions, a strange noise was heard somewhere in the classroom. No one could quite tell where the squeaking sound came from as everyone listened intently. Very quietly Mrs. Beneduci asked Steve, the quiet, well mannered nine-year-old to listen for the sound and help locate the source. As the class became very quiet, Steve not only located the source of the sound but said, "It's a mouse!" The class adopted the small rodent as their mascot and Steve discovered an amazing gift.

Was the mouse purposely planted by a very insightful teacher? We will never really know, but she continued to encourage the shy young man to use his gift in the world of music. As with so many people with Steve's gift, the sense of sound is enhanced with another sense is taken away. In the case of Steve Morris, it was his lack of sight that gave him such a wonderful ear for music! He would go on to win numerous awards as an adult: Grammys, over seventeen gold records, four gold albums and four platinum!  Yes, this shy young man with the special gift was known to the world as Little Stevie Wonder.

The real story here is not that of a talented musician, producer, and song writer, it is far more than just success, it is the journey.  As we travel in life there are very special giving people along the way who, through their unselfishness and caring, encourage us and point the way along life's winding path. It is also the story of taking what life gives you and becoming the best you can be. What's holding you back? Within every human being is something special, something unique. As you travel along life's path do it with passion and belief in yourself, after all, there is no one like you!

Have a great week Lancers!
