 A Word from the Director
Happy Fall!

With the rain, crisp temperatures, and beautiful new tree colors we are reminded once again of the beautiful place we get to call home. The Rogue Valley is truly a special place to live. We love serving students in this truly remarkable community. It's a wonderful sight to see kids back in classes, learning, and having a great time.

With more people back in the building, safety is more important than ever. We have a high vaccination rate among our teachers but we have seen breakthrough cases occurring more frequently around the nation so ALL of our office staff, teachers, and administrators, vaccinated or not, are testing weekly for COVID. Hopefully, this gives some peace of mind as teachers travel into your homes or your children come into our school. We do need everyone's help to achieve full safety. Please make sure to wear your mask correctly, which includes over your nose, while in the school building. This is currently a state requirement.

On another note, some of you remember last May when the Oregon Department of Education considered rules around hybrid, personalized learning education models like ours that would have fundamentally changed our school. The proposed rule last May included a requirement for students to be with a licensed teacher for 50% of their day. Many of you wrote letters to ODE expressing how you felt and ODE suspended the effort at the time. Afterward, they decided to take a period of time to study these models before making any new rules. Our school is proud of our results and successes, as shown on Logos most recent ODE report card, so we invited ODE to come for a site visit. They picked Dec. 3, 2021, from 10:00-12:00. This "site" visit (done virtually) will be right before the State Board of Education meets to consider any rules imposed for the next school year. It is important to show them what makes Logos and models like ours so special. It's the partnership between the school, the families, and the community. They would like to hear from our families directly. If you would like to be on the panel to talk to the department about how Logos school has helped you, please let me know.

There are lots of changes and improvements for you to be aware of at Logos. We finally obtained our permit to build our CTE (career and technical education - also known as "woodshop") building on the southeast side of our property (near the street). We will be fencing off that location soon and ask families to stay away from the heavy equipment as it works. Additionally, we are painting the south vestibule (by the garden) with a garden mural. It will be fun, bright, and exciting. I hope you enjoy these fun changes.

Lastly, a big congratulations to Jenelle VanRooyen. She was named by the Mail Tribune as the Best Teacher in their 2021 Best of the Best Competition. It is the third year in a row a Logos teacher has won that award! She joins Sarah Grady (2020) and Ricci Gibson (2019) in winning this prestigious honor. If you see Jenelle around campus, tell her congratulations!
Thank you for partnering with our school. We wouldn't be here without you.
