Tasty Tuesday!
The Carmenere way
down there (in Chile)
This Tuesday, November 11th, we present our FREE midweek wine tasting. Every Tuesday is tasty!
The long lost "6th" grape of Bordeaux, Carmenere had at one point been forgotten to such an extent that we might say nobody even knew to miss it. Between the advent of the devastating, vine-i-cidal phyllloxera aphids (pictured below) in 1870s' Bordeaux and the grape's rediscovery in Chile and Italy during the 1990s, it was often presumed to be extinct. Today, Chile grows and produces far more Carmenere than any other country, and these wines represent one of South America's most unique specialties. Join us next Tuesday as we sample three of these distinctive reds which are close relatives of the Cabernets and Merlot!
And don't forget:
Our Tasty Tuesday 15% Half-Case Discount!
After you taste, put together 6 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 15% off!

This Saturday from 12 to 3 PM
in Durham & Raleigh
"try before you buy" at
our FREE tasting
When a wine region follows a river and its numerous tributaries upstream for over 600 miles, there's bound to be simply too much to see (and taste) on a single Saturday afternoon, so this week, we've planned a short getaway to focus on just a few of our current favorites. In Touraine, the Middle-Loire's single largest subregion, we'll begin with a tremendous value in crisply bold, citrusy Sauvignon Blanc as well as a spectacularly generous bubbly featuring a perfectly harmonized collaboration between Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay. Next, just north of Sancerre and Pouilly-sur-Loire, we'll encounter a bright, Gamay-centric blend with just a kiss of Pinot Noir. We'll end on a more powerful note coming courtesy of old vine Chinon starring the ever-ethereal and perfectly perfumed Cabernet Franc grape! Vive la Loire!
Domaine de la Bergeonnire
Touraine Sauvignon 2013
100% Sauvignon Blanc
(Middle Loire, France)
SOFT TROPICAL FRUIT, JALAPENO, HEADY & BLOSSOMY Touraine is swiftly becoming one of our favorite regions in the world for knockout Sauvignon Blanc, and they tend to be less expensive than some of their more famous neighbors. This lovely drop from Domaine de la Bergeonniere is a study in balance, with bright acidity and flinty...
Domaine du Pas Saint-Martin
Saumur Blanc 2013
{organic} 100% Chenin Blanc (Middle Loire, France)
RICH & FINELY TEXTURED, GOLDEN APPLE, HAZELNUT Produced in exactly the same way as Champagne but from the Loire Valley's Touraine region, this bold Brut has very fine bubbles with persistent flavors of tart apple, pear, lemon, and honey. Floral aromas of acacia come through on the nose, and this sparkler finishes with almonds and hazelnuts...
Coteaux du Giennois 2012 "La Cote"
{sustainable} 80% Gamay, 20% Pinot Noir (Eastern Loire, France) FRESH RED PLUM, POMEGRANATE, TART CHERRY, RESTRAINED SPICE From sustainable producer Cedrick Bardin comes this alluring and rare Loire red blend. Coteaux du Giennois is located on the eastern edge of the Loire Valley northeast of Sancerre. This young, fresh, and harmonious Loire red shows fresh, red plum and bright, tart cherry reminiscent of a pomegranate fruit roll-up...
Chinon 2009 "Cuve Terroir"
{Sustainable} 100% Cabernet Franc
(Middle Loire, France)
BLACK TEA, MEDIUM-BODIED, OPEN, RIPE & SUPPLE The Gouron family has farmed their estate for five generations in the region of Chinon. The unique gravelly- sloped soils are key to the structure they get from the vines. This cuve called "Terroir" reflects this gravel and the 50- year old vines planted there. More Pinot Noir-esque in style, the Cabernet Franc here is wide open with a knife edge...
