RECOMMENDED projects of friends & associates
The last time I emailed an update to my followers and fans was in late May just before I ran my War College at a local game convention.
One of my War College presentations was How to use crowdfunding to raise the money to publish a game.
Patrick Liddell used my suggestions and launched a Kickstarter that is ending in 11 days. I pledged to his campaign that reached its goal in just 6 days.
Although his game is not a historical wargame, it looks like a lot of fun. I like to support new and creative efforts by first-time designers.
Please check it out here.
I will share my PowerPoint slides on how to crowdfund a game if you send a request for this pdf to dana.lombardy@gmail.com

HUGE LIST OF MILITARY HISTORY ITEMS
One of my oldest friends has been translating hundreds of old books, orders-of-battle, and documents for the past 30+ years. The George Nafziger Collection offers more than 300 battle and campaign studies from the 17th to the 20th centuries, uniform studies, tactics, army organizations and much, much more.
You can download his list here.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
I have had the honor and pleasure of working with historical artist Keith Rocco since the 1990s. Our latest effort is an oversize art book titled
Waterloo: Napoleon's Last Army
that shipped earlier this year. You can see lots of sample images and read about the project here and order a copy of the book here.
A recent review of the Waterloo book is posted here.

The next Rocco art book in this series is
Napoleon's French Light Cavalry 1796-1815
that includes officers and troopers of the line Hussars, Chasseurs, and Lancers with interesting stories of their campaigns and battles. Keith is working on many new paintings for this book, including the two 8th Hussars shown above (left) as they appeared in 1808. We hope to publish the light cavalry book in 2024, and there will be more updates in 2022 and 2023.

FREE DOWNLOAD: Wargame Design magazine
Kevin Zucker is the owner of Operational Studies Group (OSG) and designer of the Library of Napoleonic Battles – an impressive and extensive series of board wargames of the era (16 games currently in print).
His recently redesigned publication Wargame Design is beautiful! (See cover above right.) Although its focus is wargame design and how his games work, there are two articles that show Kevin's understanding of the history of the period: one on the French IInd Corps in 1813 and another that is an overview about artillery. Excellent information for Napoleonic aficionados and researchers!
Download a free pdf copy of the magazine here.

In addition to my own books and games, I occasionally help colleagues and friends with their projects. It was a privilege to be the editor of Neil P. Chatelain's new book on the Confederacy's war to control the Mississippi River Valley and its tributaries 1861-1865: Defending the Arteries of Rebellion (8 maps, 42 photos & illustrations, lists of organizations & abbreviations, glossary of terms, 324 pages, 2020).

One reviewer called it "...a skillfully organized description and analysis of Confederate naval operations on the Mississippi River and its vast system of tributaries and deltas....In this study, author Neil Chatelain conclusively demonstrates that, while Confederate ships would continue to score occasional tactical successes, greater aspirations of maintaining permanent control over any major stretch of the Mississippi was essentially rendered impossible by the decisions and events of 1861-62."

Neil is a former U.S. Navy Surface Warfare Officer and teaches history in Texas.
I gave a seminar on the book to my local Civil War Round Table.
You can watch it on my YouTube channel here and order the book from publisher Savas Beatie here.

Hall of Fame graphic artist Rodger MacGowan helped me with my first professional publication, Conflict magazine, in the 1970s. Rodger and I collaborated on MacGowan & Lombardy's THE GREAT WAR – a solitaire and 2-player card game that shipped to the Kickstarter backers earlier this year.

Rick Martin of Armchair General called it a "...Card Game with Incredible Art and Great Game Play!" Read the full review here.

Based on player feedback, we made a slight revision to the play mat which you can download here.

I am now working on a series of short how-to-play videos to explain how the game works and help gamers get into the game faster. A link to these videos should be sent out before the end of August.
You can order the game here.

Go here for a sneak peek at my next Kickstarter project that launches tomorrow on Monday, August 1.
(There is too much detail to explain it all here, but there are photos and information never before published in English in these books – check them out!)
Lombardy Studios is developing a new D-Day book about Keith Rocco's original murals now on exhibit at the First Division Museum at Cantigny in Wheaton, Illinois (Chicago).
Below are a few samples of Keith's amazing work that will appear in the book.
We will continue to update you over the next months as it moves closer to being published.
