THIS WEEK IN LONG BEACH...

Mulch Giveaway

The City of Long Beach Department of Sanitation will be hosting a Mulch Giveaway this weekend!

Residents are invited to join us on Saturday, January 18th, and Sunday, January 19th, from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Sanitation Department, located at 150 West Pine Street. This eco-friendly event offers an excellent opportunity for residents to collect mulch made from recycled Christmas trees.

To participate, residents are encouraged to bring their own bags or bins to collect the mulch, which will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. This initiative not only recycles holiday waste but also supports sustainable gardening practices within our community.

Due to limited parking on West Pine Street, we kindly request that residents park their vehicles on National Boulevard or Magnolia Boulevard. We appreciate your cooperation in helping to make this event smooth and accessible for everyone.

Thank you to the Department of Sanitation for launching this new initiative for the residents of our "city by the sea".

MLK Day Closures

In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, City Hall and the Magnolia Center will be closed Monday, January 20, 2025. The Recreation Center and Ice Arena will be open. LB Buses will be running on a holiday schedule. There will be NO Residential Sanitation Pickup.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative March

The Martin Luther King Center, Inc. in partnership with the City of Long Beach will host the annual MLK Commemorative March to celebrate Dr. King's life and legacy. The March will step off from Laurelton Blvd. & West Park Avenue on Monday, January 20th at 11:30 am and end at the MLK Center. There will be a ceremony at the Center following the march. All are welcome!
