Yonkers Fire Station
No. 1 Out to Bid
Mitchell Associates is the firematic design consultant for the new Yonkers Fire Station # 1. Working with Highland Associates (Architect of Record). We have completed programming and floor plans and provided the details for firematic spaces. We also designed the
Memorial Bell Tower. Bids are due February 16. Contact the
CIty of Yonkers for more information. Construction is expected to begin this spring.
The design of the Memorial Bell Tower honors the 200-year-old fire service tradition known as The Ringing of the Bell. The Bell Ceremony remembers the departed firefighter and commemorates coming home for the last time. The warm color of the Corten steel used in the design adds a traditional appearance to the steel's inherent strength, while at the same time keeping maintenance to a minimum.
PPE & Fire Station Design
by Richard Barlette
Fire station design can play an essential role in the care of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and in controlling contaminants. Dirty PPE and clothing is no longer acceptable in today's fire service. Mitchell Associates recognizes that cleaning PPE, SCBA and equipment after a fire is an important first step in protecting emergency response personnel from known toxins, carcinogens, and ultimately cancer.
