Indian Creek TOD Final Community Meeting | |
Celebrate your Vision for TOD!
The Indian Creek Station Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Master Plan is an opportunity to transform the end-of-line station into a transit-oriented community that connects people to opportunity, drives sustainable community development, and promotes regional prosperity.
On Saturday, March 30, 2024, MARTA hosted the Indian Creek MARTA TOD Open House for the public. With an attendance of over 200 community members, MARTA had the opportunity to showcase its master plan for the Indian Creek MARTA Station. The plan includes 1,600 apartment units, retail, office space, a grocery, restaurants, a park plus festival space, and eight parking garages.
The next steps of the project include rezoning the lot for mixed-use and then working with private developers to make the vision a reality.

Public Art on Candler Road | |
Community Engagement Report Published!
Public art is being planned along Candler Road between I-285 and Memorial Drive. Several exciting possibilities are underway or are expected to begin soon along the corridor, making it the perfect location for a public art focus.
The period of community engagement is currently closed for the Public Art on Candler project. A final summary report for community engagement has been published and is available below.

Inspiring the Planners of Tomorrow!
On Friday, March 22nd, the DeKalb County Planning and Sustainability Department was invited to the DeKalb Early College Academy (DECA) Annual Career Exploration Day! We had the privilege of speaking to over 50 students throughout the event. Eight of our team members spoke with the high school students, including but not limited to our Sustainability Coordinator, Historic Preservation Planner, Sr. Land Use Planner, Administrative Specialist, Staff Engineer, and our GIS Specialist.
We look forward to next year's event and further opportunities to engage with students and educate them on what we do here at Planning and Sustainability.

Discover How Your Utility is Regulated - Event Recap
On March 16, 2024, around 20 citizen activists attended the 4th Climate Champions Event hosted by Southface. The seminar covered how the Public Service Commission (PSC) regulates the monopoly utility and has a system for public input. Attendants learned how they may influence the PSC board members and staff to help our community move towards a clean energy future.

Clarendon Avenue Tree Planting
In March, 38 trees, including magnolias, oaks, and serviceberries, were planted in DeKalb County along Clarendon Avenue.
This project was funded through DeKalb’s Tree Bank Fund, in partnership with Trees Atlanta.
During the 2023-2024 planting season, approximately 250 trees were planted in DeKalb County through our ReLeaf DeKalb program!

Help Conserve the Forest in Legacy Park!
Since 2021, Trees Atlanta has worked alongside The City of Decatur, East Decatur Greenway, and neighbors from Avondale Estates and surrounding communities to restore the forested area of the park.

Memorial Drive Revitalization
The DeKalb County Department of Planning and Sustainability is undertaking a process to enhance the long-term economic viability of the Memorial Drive corridor. Updates will be posted as they come!

ALERT: MARTA Airport Station
MARTA RIDER ALERT! Plan ahead when taking MARTA to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Allow 30 extra minutes for travel.
The MARTA Airport Station will be closed from April 8, 2024, to May 19, 2024.
Follow signs to shuttle between College Park Station and the airport, running daily 4 a.m. – 2 a.m.

ALERT: MARTA East Lake Station
See MARTA’s renewed focus on Service, Experience, and Expansion or SEE.
SEE improved accessibility and safety at East Lake Station as MARTA replaces the north pedestrian bridge.
The north pedestrian bridge and north parking lot at East Lake Station will be CLOSED from March 15 to October 2024 for construction. Customers must use the south parking lot and south pedestrian bridge. Station Soccer will remain open.

Campbell Casseb - GIS Specialist
Before becoming a part of the County, Campbell earned his Master of Science in Geography from Georgia State University, specializing in GIS and examining land use changes in the Atlanta region.
He completed his bachelor’s degree in urban forestry at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, prior to relocating to DeKalb County in 2017. Campbell finds pleasure in outdoor activities and cherishes moments spent with his pets.

Tony Guilford - Staff Engineer
As a Civil Engineer, Tony has worked on several cross-functional teams in conceiving, designing, and maintaining large infrastructure projects in the public and private sectors.
His experience lies in Transportation and Project management and is looking forward to making a contribution to the Planning & Sustainability team.
