DeKalb Stone Mountain Trail Master Plan
Calling all Stone Mountain Trail Users and Community Members! Save the dates for upcoming in person and online engagement opportunities for the DeKalb Stone Mountain Trail Master Plan. This Plan will identify strategies to improve connectivity and mobility, accommodate equitable development and affordable housing, create more people-focused spaces, and drive economic development along the trail corridor.

The “Community 101” program is a newly launched training designed to provide tailored training to residents in unincorporated DeKalb, equipping them with essential knowledge about the services offered by the DeKalb County Planning & Sustainability Department.

Engage DeKalb is Planning and Sustainability's community engagement platform!
With Engage DeKalb, community members can actively participate by taking part in surveys, sharing ideas, and staying up to date with ongoing projects in the community.
Some current projects include Short Term Rentals Text Amendment, Special Event Facilities Text Amendment, Global City-Memorial Drive Community Revitalization Plan, and more!

Our Front Yard Tree Program is an opportunity for DeKalb homeowners to add shade and beauty to their yard, at no cost to the homeowner. Our partner, Trees Atlanta, provides advice on species selection and the best location for the tree, and will deliver and plant the tree.

Georgia Arbor Day is in February because it is the ideal time to plant trees in our state. Arbor Day is a day set aside for organizations and individuals to reflect on the importance of trees in our state and across our nation. Learn more at the links below:

Sweep the Hooch is an annual watershed-wide trash cleanup that brings together hundreds of volunteers each year at dozens of parks, tributaries, and access points along the Chattahoochee River.
This year's event takes place on Saturday, March 22, 2025, and there are several locations to volunteer to help clean up DeKalb streams that feed the Chattahoochee. Registration for Sweep the Hooch opens Friday, February 14, 2025.

Metro Atlanta Climate Action Plan
The Atlanta Regional Commission is developing the Metro Atlanta Climate Action Plan (MACAP) for the 29-county Atlanta Metropolitan Statistical Area. The plan will serve as a roadmap to create a sustainable and resilient future for all, while also highlighting strategic initiatives to transition to net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050.
Your participation and input into the plan will be key as ARC identifies the most impactful climate actions, the potential impacts on communities, as well as the benefits to the region’s workforce and economy.

MARTA Next Gen Bus Network Redesign
MARTA is reimagining and modernizing its bus network to bring our customers a SMARTER, FASTER, BETTER transit experience through the NextGen Bus Network. This once-in-a-generation system redesign will transform MARTA bus service across our region, adapting to the needs of a dynamically growing metro area.
Public feedback received will help refine the proposed NextGen Bus Network with planned implementation in late 2025. MARTA’s goals for the NextGen Bus Network aim to create a Smarter, Faster, and Better bus system.

Congratulations to Our New AICP Certified Planner!
The Long Range Planning team would like to congratulate James Burge on receiving the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.
The AICP credential is a prestigious verification of planners’ qualifications. To become AICP-certified, a planner must have relevant education and work experience, and they must pass a rigorous exam that tests their knowledge and skills in the planning field.
We are proud of James' accomplishments and his dedication to deepening her professional growth. We look forward to his future impact on the community!
