Long Weekend Update and Call for Volunteers and Donors

June 28, 2024

YOU ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF THIS CLUB

Dear members,

When it comes to providing the best possible Stony Lake experience for you and your families, generous commitments of volunteer time and financial donations from our membership are equally valuable. Without them, the SLYC as you know it today could not exist.

One of the areas we’re focused on for 2024 is expanding and diversifying our list of volunteers and donors. Please know there's no time commitment or donation that would ever be considered too small, so we encourage everyone to get involved.

A great place to start is with our annual golf tournament, which takes place on August 6. In addition to our three traditional sponsorship levels (Gold $2,500, Silver $1,000 and Bronze $500), this year we’re introducing a new category where any amount can be contributed, however big or small.

The funds we raise through the golf tournament are essential to SLYC’s ability to operate. On average over the past five years, the net proceeds from the golf tournament cover approximately 10% of the annual SLYC operating budget. Your donation will continue to help maintain and fully staff the Club for the enjoyment of our amazing community. All donations are tax deductible and receipts will be provided.

If you would like to donate to the tournament and/or volunteer to help run the event, please email us at slycgolftournament@gmail.com

Thank you for your continued support of SLYC. And see you soon on the lake!

Warmly,

SLYC Board of Directors

WEEKEND RACING UPDATE

Welcome to the 2024 Weekend Racing season! The schedule is now posted on slyc.ca.

Saturday, June 29 is an exciting kick-off with the annual Alumni Instructors Team Racing Challenge vs. the enthusiastic 2024 Instructors. Thank you to Sarah Sackville for organizing this event and Rob Thompson for hosting the dinner.

The Weekend Racing program is similar to last year and all families are invited to use SLYC boats. We are delighted to welcome back Head Starter, Maclain Walsworth with Assistant Starters Rocky Walsworth and Taylor Dalton.

Please note all races start at 1pm. All Saturday races are located north of Elephant Rock, not far from the club. All Sunday races are east of Eaglemount in the more open water.

Season highlights include Laser Race Day, 420 and Opti Race Day and the Annual Cat Boat regatta. We thank Gord Welsh, who has served as Cat Boat Commodore for many years, and welcome John Heine as the new Cat Boat Commodore.

See you on the water!

THE SPRINT IS BACK!

While not an official SLYC event, this has always been popular with our members and we're happy to spread the good word from the organizers:

Gather your kids, neighbours, friends and family and come on out to Viamede Resort on Saturday, July 20 for the Stoney Lake Sprint.

We are raising money this year to support Kawartha Land Trust in their efforts to purchase the Jeffrey-Cowan Forest Preserve Extension. For every dollar we raise, the Stony Lake Heritage Foundation will match us dollar for dollar up to $3,000.

Early registration is encouraged and very much appreciated to allow us to plan appropriately. Please try to register by July 5 at www.stoneylakesprint.ca
