Township Plaza Update

For decades, one property has dominated discussion in the City of Longwood unlike any other: Township Plaza. On Friday, March 5, 2021, the City of Longwood received exciting news that the property has officially been purchased by Dounia Development, Inc.

The new owners have an exciting vision for what the property can be, including new retail and restaurant space as well as taking full advantage of the property’s beautiful and underutilized setting on the unique natural area of Island Lake. While the project concept is still very much in the early stages, the City is very excited about the developer’s overall vision for the site and looks forward to a formal submittal in the near future.

UPCOMING TREE TRIMMING

Duke Energy will have crews pruning trees along electric lines located within Longwood municipal boundaries during the 2nd quarter of 2021. The attached map(s) show the lines planned for trimming. Typically, crews start at the substation and work their way out/down the line. The tree crews will be cleaning up all debris associated with maintenance activities. As a reminder, debris resulting from storm damage or other events unrelated to maintenance activities is the responsibility of the homeowners. Part of the pruning activity will occur on lateral lines, some of which will require climbing in rear lot areas.
Trees are a leading cause of power outages. Duke Energy’s progressive tree care practices help minimize outages during storms. Tree crews use a technique known as directional pruning, which is endorsed by The National Arbor Day Foundation and the International Society of Arboriculture. Certified arborists supervise qualified employees.

To learn more about our tree care practices please visit our website at www.duke-energy.com/trees.
